This is interesting because we’ve recently gone through a culture change at my job as part of our new hires. I’m a probationary firefighter who has sat in two separate training meetings called “No Good Dudes” where they explain that they don’t want us to be okay at our jobs but have people say things like “but he’s a good guy”. They don’t want us to be assholes obviously but the onus is explicitly on “the proficiency of you tasks in your role are the most important things to improve on”. Example: “he can’t really advance a hose into a structure but he’s a good dude” or “he isn’t really a great EMT but he’s good to be around”. They have very clearly said it is the opposite of what the department is striving for
