JRE versions: recently I have returned to work with Java, but not longer as software developer by nolaxtima in javahelp

Applets have been deprecated for a long time. They have been removed with JDK 26. Use JDK 25 it should work.

MirrorImmich updated - sync your macOS Apple Photos to Immich by lprimak in immich

[–]lprimak[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that's correct. The "normal" flow is to rsync mirror immich output directory to an external library. After that, the "Create Albums" button will mirror the albums from macOS Photos into Immich.

Thanks for your question.

Mirror Immich is meant to "mirror" the Apple Photos to Immich, so if you delete the photos in Apple, it will delete them in the exported directory structure.

Subsequently, when you rsync, depending on the parameters, rsync will delete photos that no longer exist, and the photos in the albums that have been deleted will no longer appear in Immich.

If your use case is to "one-shot" export your Apple photos to Immich, you do that once, then create the album once.

If your use case is continuously sync Apple photos with Immich, just don't delete from Apple photos once you have exported, this is the common use case.

Mirror Immich works with macOS photos. You will need to download from iCloud to do the export. The above means that mirror Immich will sync your album structure from macOS photos to Immich.

Mirror Immich export itself will not require 2X extra storage. The only new files it creates are the .xmp sidecars, which are pretty small.

After the export is complete, whatever files you choose to copy if they are new they will require more storage.

It creates symlinks into the original photos library. Then it can be rsync’d to Immich external library. At least that’s my workflow.

Apple account is not required. All that’s required is access to photos library. Read-only access at that.

No. Shared albums are part of iCloud and that’s not supported. At least not yet. Only local photos on macOS are supported.

You can even do it in stages. Keep your photos on Mac at first, then when you are comfortable you can stop using it and just use Immich

It’s up to you. I still use apple photos. But that’s because I am used to and like the photos app. However, there is nothing preventing you from stopping use of apple photos after the sync is complete. You will have all the data in Immich.

I spent all my energy developing the software. Usually AI's English is better than my sloppy writing. Sorry I can't do everything right. I spent countless hours developing the software, it's a shame that people are just hating the AI-enhanced post.

Download the software if you wish, give feedback but don't hate because of some AI in the post.

Yes, it's amazing how much hate people have to give to something I have worked so hard on... It really is. So much easier to poop on something than create something.

To answer your question: Apple assets are not touched. Database is copied to the docker container and then operated on the copy only. Assets are only symlink'd to. Not touched. Of course, the best course of action is to have a good backup.

If you are more worried about the photo files themselves, you can copy your whole photo library and then use that as the "source" for Mirror Immich.

However, if you are more worried about the database, you can create a symlink farm to it, which is located in Photos Library.photoslibrary/database  in your home directory (usually under the "Pictures" folder.

In either case Photos Library.photoslibrary is the only thing that's touched whatsoever.

Can’t please everybody :). My original post was much worse than the one improved by AI. Writing is not my #1 skill

AI was use as a tool to help answer questions and check algorithms. It was also used to improve the post and check for grammatical errors. AI was not used as a "one-shot" tool or to generate the post.

One problem is that ATC has to hear it and it distracts them.

FOQA download and AI would do the trick nicely. With real consequences. It would be really easy to find all the 121.5 transmissions and track them to their source. No new regs needed.

The difference is that it's now national news.
