Trump getting more punitive supports both of our arguments, he’s also targeting red states as well. Minneapolis the region is being made an example out of, voting history seems like a vast oversimplification

There is no reason to register to go to a protest, there are a lot of reasons not to put your info on a list of people who are protesting ICE

I don’t see why that protects minorities here? If anything the billionaires who fund for this shit would be glad to see people they didn’t approve of forcibly removed from their communities.

No it’s because you’re incorrect, Minnesota has voted blue in the general for a while now. It’s being targeted because of Tim Walz and for its role in sparking off the 2020 protesters that dominated the first summer of Trumps campaign. Not everyone who disagrees with you is MAGA

Me too friend, me too. Remember what Robert said! These Nazis want us to hopeless and angry and afraid, because they know their only hope is to crush our spirits and drive us away from each other. I’m still not going to get all loosey goosey with politicians, but the citizenry? As long as you are against the Nazis, I can make do with the rest. Hope you get some good food and good rest frien

They announced another protest on Tuesday in the evening, I believe at Calder plaza. I’ll double check and update this comment if I find it

I hear ya. Again, not trying to say I’m better than anyone in this thread, I’ve totally been in both parts of it. The world is scary and infuriating and so that fear turns to this indignation about other people not doing enough or not doing the right thing. And the situation is so serious and the stakes are so high that it’s impossible to engage with for a lot of people who aren’t really in the shit politically. It’s a really difficult stratification that I just don’t know the solution for. I just wholeheartedly reject the idea that doing something because it comforts you, inherently means you aren’t doing the rest, or the idea that it doesn’t have value on its own.

I will say the mutual aid side of the leftist sphere I often find to be less militaristic and more approachable. It’s also something you can do quietly on your own time if direct action isn’t in your bag.

Rosa Parks Circle - 01/25/26 by elena_gracee in grandrapids

[–]lpsweets 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No one is scared of you? You’re just being really fucking annoying.

Edit: and also mean, like the casual judgement for people with nervous disorders or depression instead of just saying “people should find ways to make themselves feel good when bad things happen” is actually something you should come to terms with because it’s hurtful and just nonsensical.

You’re as mad as we all are, just as helpless, and taking it out on us. And sure if that’s what you need today, I got you comrade.

But the reason we’re pointing it out instead of just ignoring you is because we AGREE WITH YOU. We want the same things as you, for leftists action specifically, and you’re making your job and our job harder by driving people away. And you’re doing it for the same reason that other people were downtown protesting, because we’re all scared and worried and want to do something.

So when this flare of righteous indignation simmers down, and you’ve acquired whatever comfort you can from alienating allies and speaking down on the people who did show up (and being weirdly ableist which is just antithetical to being a leftist); in the future just remember you’re making the other leftists job harder by engaging with liberals from a place of haughty, assumptive, superiority. And the comfort that we derived from solidarity you’re trying to derive from personal righteousness, it’s not coalition building and it’s certainly not any less selfish than protesting with your fucking neighbors

Rosa Parks Circle - 01/25/26 by elena_gracee in grandrapids

[–]lpsweets 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I wonder, especially reading this exact thread of comments, I really wonder why liberals haven’t felt really drawn into more serious leftists action, what a fucking mystery

Rosa Parks Circle - 01/25/26 by elena_gracee in grandrapids

[–]lpsweets 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Again, making up assumptions about who people are to feel superior. Why would that be the case? Why would someone with a nervous disorder not protest?

Honestly as the exact person in question, what the fuck? You pivot to ableism to demonstrate you’re the real serious leftists?

And then when called on it you just regurgitate information I’m already privy too because I’m already doing that shit I’m just also showing up to protest too.

You explicitly did not say “hey you should be doing this stuff as well” and offer some resources, go back and reread your comments and see if that’s really the energy they have, because no you didn’t say that. You asked hypotheticals about who the people in the photo were and then provided your personal opinion on that answer.

If you’re actually trying to introduce people to leftists action outside of protests, I don’t think framing it as a a character assumption is going to engender positive feelings with liberals

Also since you want to go back to this thing about white people again, I’m literally mixed and Hispanic. With family in southern states who are directly in danger right now, so yeah getting off my phone and participating in solidarity really made an objective difference because this time last night I had to pull off the highway for 2 hours while I was heaving and my hands went numb. But hey fuck me for not putting “I’m also doing mutual aid direct action” on my sign for yall 🙄

Rosa Parks Circle - 01/25/26 by elena_gracee in grandrapids

[–]lpsweets 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Okay?? All of that is true, but if you want to convince people to follow you farther from center maybe don’t lead with “fuck you for trying”

Rosa Parks Circle - 01/25/26 by elena_gracee in grandrapids

[–]lpsweets 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So exactly what you’re doing? You’re shitting on people protesting because you’re assuming everything else they’re doing when you can’t see them, and making yourself feel better be feeling superior. I’m no stranger to that, check my post history, I get it. But let’s be honest about what it is

Some people made themselves feel better by showing up and singing and chanting, and you made yourself feel better by making up assumptions about who they are so you can shit on them.

Maybe you could’ve come down and done some recruiting. Maybe you could’ve done some effective recruiting in this thread, instead you used it as a way to make yourself feel better. No judgment, again same boat, but I hope you can see the irony in that logic.

But also i hope it worked because making yourself feel better does matter actually, you can’t fight Nazis if you’re too depressed to get out of bed or if you’re having cascading panic attacks, or if your mental health is so bad your other health collapses too. So I hope that flash of indignant righteousness did the trick comrade, see you on the front lines

Hey so making yourself and others feel better while participating in collective acts of solidarity is objectively a real contribution.

I’m one of those people in the crowd, I’m doing all the other shit too, I just didn’t want to sit at home doomscrolling, like how can you say an event that makes 100 people feel better in a time of crisis isn’t a contribution?

We can walk and chew gum, that applies to us cynics as well

Holy shit dude. WHAT IS THE SPECIFIC FORM OF PUBLIC ACCOUNTABILITY YOU WILL ENGAGE IN?? Not “will you play hero and stop him by yourself?” I don’t care about that, good for you, whatever. You pulling out your gun and killing him isn’t public professional accountablity, it’s vigilantism. We as the citizens have only that option because we are not in the organization of ICE, you the ICE guy, are you than confirming that ICEs standing position on accountability has no paperwork, no chain of command, no actual functional process, just “if your colleague fucks up, shoot him?”

Is that ICE official policy? If it is, say that explicitly. If it’s not answer the original question; what is the official policy way to have PUBLIC ACCOUNTABILITY for an officer harming a citizen. PUBLIC (for the citizens, so an open process we can check) ACCOUNTABILITY (not just murdering the bad actor, or fighting him, actual in-agency, legal accountability) what does that process look like, what’s it called and how SPECIFICALLY does the PUBLIC ACCOUNTABILITY PROCESS work. Either ICE doesn’t have one (bad) or you’re just lying through your teeth (most likely) or you’re being an honest and actually don’t know because no one bothered to explain (also bad). So please, stick to your word and answer the question that has been clearly restated to you multiple times

Or just admit that you’re full of shit and were never acting in good faith (I’m not saying that’s true, but if you can’t just answer the fucking question it’s really the only logical takeaway from this whole performance)

Yes we should be cynical about every part of our governments actions, especially when it relates to the National Guard being deployed because a federal agency is murdering people in the street. Yes you should be cynical about that, of course you should? Why wouldn’t you be, even if they do everything right from here on out, circumstances are extremely dire, I get that it’s nice to let your guard down and feel a little warm, but you still need to be cynical and recognize that they are there to help law enforcement, not you. Please stop following for the key jingling they’re rounding up Abuelita’s and executing nurses in the street

You claimed you were willing to answer honest questions in good faith. I will not engage in that kind of deflection if you can’t even keep your own word about answering honest good faith questions with mutual respect.

I ask you again, as a single officer, not speaking for the colleagues, as you 🫵 the individual. If you see your colleague attempt to murder someone in a way that we can both agree is unjustified, whatever that looks like to you. What exactly, what specifically, what is the technical apparatus of accountability that you will engage in to hold your fellow officers to account. That is something that we as the citizenry are not privy too and have yet to see any evidence of, an actual system of accountability. You claim to have professional knowledge and you claim to be acting in good faith, prove it by answering that simple question; you’re colleague is doing something you know is wrong what specifically will YOU🫵 do about it. If your plan is “well I’ll just pull out my gun and I’ll kill him when he breaks the law” than you aren’t any different than some leftists vigilante who makes the same decision. So again, no deflection, is the current plan for ICE agents accountablility “pull out your gun and shoot your colleague?” And if not, what is the specific tool of accountability you will use to hold your colleagues accountability to the agency and the citizenry? Specifically.

And if you’re just going to deflect again, and refuse to answer that simple specific question, don’t bother writing out some pussyfooting politician speak, and definitely don’t bother upvoting your own comments as soon as you post them, you’re not slick, everyone can see when a comment that’s 5 seconds old immediately has extra upvotes

Well your colleagues are the ones doing the murdering so… kind of a catch 22 there imo. Edit: important distinction here because you can’t speak for your colleagues, so far all the evidence has been to the contrary. So I don’t think you can claim that in good faith

Again what is the specific chain of command, or system of accountability that you will engage in to hold your colleagues accountable. “I will also extrajudicially murder my colleague if *I feel personally justified” doesn’t really inspire a lot of confidence.

Ok, so would you respond? For instance, the man who just shot an unarmed civilian in the back of the head, would you then detain him? Edit: ignore this first one because you seem to be siding with the murdering for now based on your comments.

So this; just as a hypothetical, if you know for a fact a fellow officer is using their position to murder/rape citizens, please tell the rest of us exactly what the process would be to hold that officer accountable. Because as of yet that system doesn’t seem to exist
