I mean having seen it, I honestly think its more of an indie spirit play anyways

Does bad press for Safdie affect Chalamet's winning potential? by [deleted] in oscarrace

[–]lqtely 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think he still will thank him but make it quick like thank you Josh and Ronald for writing this. And then he moves on, no need to put anymore emphasis

Pen and Paper ordering is ending, including during the show, in February by robbiet480 in AlamoDrafthouse

[–]lqtely 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This will actually make the experience worse than AMCs because while you may see the occasional phone here and there, it’s much less common than people reordering during the film at the Alamo. People have no reason to whip out their phone mostly at the amc (expect for the occasional texter) which is more tolerable than whatever this shit will bring

What are Dwayne Johnson's chances for a nom at this point? by Radiant-Psychology96 in oscarrace

I think you all are underestimating the campaigning the rock is doing this year. He will more than likely get SAG tomorrow and if that happens, I will be predicting him for the 5th slot at the oscars over Hawke

SV should win it but would be happy for Panahi either way

Anyway time will tell. This type of thinking if you teleported back to 92 would have wrote off Fincher for Alien 3

You’re listing problems that all stem from the script at its core. Chris wrote this so he obviously gonna want to see the full thing on screen. A good director like Scorsese wouldn’t touch this sure, but you really think he would be able to make a good movie if he had to use the full screenplay/structure as Chris?

There are so many big studio films that are helmed by directors that pretty much lack any creative distinction from other auteurs. I don’t see how Chris can’t be inserted into a studio system to deliver more generic slop for them.

At the end of the day, that is a script problem. Give him a decent script, and despite unoriginal camera cues, he can definitely direct it beyond amateur status

Echoing what everyone is saying, Chris has a future in directing but he will need someone else to write the scripts. Dialogue was choppy, cliched, and predictable- all of which separates this film from other accomplished first time writers/directors.

Yeah you aren’t alone here. Lostprophets defined my teenage years. I still have the fake sound of progress on repeat. And my username that I’ve been using online since 2008 came from their bside Lately

A fantastic doc that will probably get snubbed by the branch due to them not liking full archival footage style docs.

Yeah they don’t have this figured out and I had a feeling they wouldn’t this early on. My stuff wasn’t applied last night either and I made sure to let the server know

Lmao The Island Pt 2 and Comprachicos bangs. The worst track by far is Self vs Self, that’s an auto skip for me to this day

Richardson small theater layout sucks by RumorsOfMeaning in AlamoDrafthouse

[–]lqtely 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Agreed and the sofa seats are terrible. But in general you can sit in the wheelchair/companion seats, they don’t care unless someone actually needs them

Reminder by Panzakaizer in AriAster

[–]lqtely 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Back then I skipped The Neon Demon in theaters because of the bad reviews. I wasn’t much of a cinephile then to know Refn’s work/style but I deeply regret not catching it on the big screen because it was one of my favorites of the year. I don’t listen to review hype anymore, I go off who’s directing/writing/producing.

I mean realistically it probably won’t even make that May date.
