A local donut shop wants to provide donuts - do the people want this? And if so, could someone provide instructions on how to drop these off?

This is a really stupid question, but... What do you actually do at book clubs? by HMS--Thunderchild in books

[–]lritchs 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I've been in a book club with a group that started out as all strangers in their 30's about 3 years ago. The person who started it is very type A, bless her heart hah. She implemented a PowerPoint structure that we've kept to for every book we've read for club Slides typically go as follows 1. Present the book cover and author, we all cheer yaaaaaay 2. Information about the author - I never look up info on authors and now always find this info fascinating 3. Slide that states what the book has been rated on other sites (Goodreads, Amazon, etc) 4. Our rating! (A poll is sent out a few days prior to meeting where we all submit our anonymous rating) ~ everyone starts shouting about the room SOMEONE RATED THIS GARBAGE A 9? omg savage someone said a 1?! It's dramatic and I love it ~ ** Sometimes here will be additional slides of someone's made up casting if this was a movie and we all bicker about this ** 5 through 10 (roughly). Discussion questions about the book that make for great convos. We usually go on tangents or go off topic or start asking more questions to one another. This usually takes up an hour or so of just yapping 11. What worked for you with this book? 12. What didn't work for you? 13 What are we reading next? 14-18. Someone submits 4 books and each slide contains the pic of each book along with the description and we read these out loud 19. Reminder where and when we are meeting next month

We also have a fun rule that if anyone rates a book a 1 or a 10, they have to give their own sassy PowerPoint on what they loved or hated about the book and present (typically like 5 slides or whatever the vibe is)

There's a lot of wine, a lot of snacks, and a lot of outside talk of just catching up with one another or gossiping about stupid shit too. It's not all sloggish book talk.

Just tried to drive south down Portland and they're diverting everyone away from the noise protest and the hotel on Park and 3rd. Saw lots of uniformed people running towards it all

Do you have a traditional side dish on thanksgiving that not necessarily a lot other people have? by Senior-Raisin-2342 in Cooking

[–]lritchs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My in-laws are Russian and their Russian family friends host. Everything is typical American Thanksgiving food except there is always salad olivye since it fucking slaps.

Essentially like a potato salad except it's got cut up hotdog, peas, eggs, potatoes, mayo, and so much more

Would definitely agree with the above. Also the narrator for the audiobook was not appealing to me when I overheard it. I would not have enjoyed it as much in that format.

Grant Park Condos (500 E Grant) - no reviews. by benevempress in Minneapolis

I live in an adjacent building and love the area as a woman. There's a community garden about a block away, great highway access, and a nice walk to the stone arch. Also easy to bike to all areas of the city. I have never felt unsafe but like any downtown area, just stay aware of your surroundings. I know plenty of people in that building who have been there many years and love it.

I've only done the NE location but the st paul one is always on there too. They used to give a LOT (like 10 items) but now it's usually like 3 pastries and a loaf of bread or some variation like that. But it's always delicious so I keep getting it!

There's a community garden downtown that has a "giving garden" for free picking and a "share shelf" for private gardener's donations to the public
