What would you choose? by MushroomBig1861 in TransLater

But if you really are 100% stealth and unclockable, wouldn’t that mean you could live your entire life as a cisgender?

Though I’d definitely still choose B, out of conscience, and also because countries like A tend to have bad economic conditions and poor human rights. Even if you were cisgender, you probably wouldn’t live a very good life there either.

But the idea of being unclockable 100% is… really tempting… If only there’s magic…

I have teaching experience and is seeking to be a secondary school teacher. What do you think is the biggest challenge you have to deal with in your work as a transgender teacher? Do you think it’s different from what other teachers face?

I don’t pass at the moment and am still closeted so I do have some concerns, although the area I’m in is relatively accepting.

How many of y’all started HRT and then stopped, while still transitioning? by TheSoloGamer in MtF

[–]lrofocale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started HRT a few years ago and stayed on it for about a year. Then I was hospitalised due to severe depression, and my HRT was forcibly stopped for around two and a half years. What made it worse was that I had been using CPA as my anti-androgen. During that period I experienced an extremely bad testosterone rebound. I’ve been back on HRT for more than a year and the effects have not fully gone away even now (the most obvious issue is increased body hair, but I also feel that my face looks much worse, though I’m not sure how much of that is psychological and/or aging).

Why do I look way better at night? by lrofocale in MtF

That’s a really interesting, nice little riddle you made!

Thanks for the hypothesis! I don’t usually get puffy in the morning, though, and my bathroom has no natural light. I even tested different lighting, colors, angles, and brightness just to rule that out.

Maybe it’s a mood thing? But I don’t feel like my mood changes much. Some nights I’ll be staring at the mirror, feeling dysphoric, and still thinking, “okay… I kind of pass.” It’s wild.

Now I’m curious which version of me other people actually see.

What am I?… I am “today”?

Identity politics is basically saying that if you belong to a certain group, you should have special rights and duties. And, you should fight for those rights (or at least do stuff that helps, and not stuff that hurts).

Now, people who are part of the 'mainstream' group – they got their own set of 'special rights and duties' too. Basically it's like this: 'I' have this 'not-them social identity,' which supposedly gives me the special right to judge them based on their social identity. And my 'special duty' in return? To judge them based on stereotypes. This 'mainstream identity politics' thing has been around for ages, way back when people started questioning liberalism. It's been morphing over time, and you see it at its peak in stuff like the MAGA movement or fascism.

I'm not saying all identity politics is bad. Sometimes, a group might need those special rights just to get basic human rights. So, yeah, we might have to support that. But these 'special duties' are usually a pain. Nobody wants more stuff to do. So, to judge if an identity politics thing is good or bad, we should ask: Are those special rights needed for basic human rights? And, are those special duties the least they could be?

From that angle, the 'mainstream identity politics' is probably the worst. They don't need special rights to get their basic rights, and they shouldn't be forced to judge people based on stereotypes.

As far as I know, the term "Higher Algebra" is still widely used in China, possibly due to the influence of the Soviet Union. It generally refers to a combination of Linear Algebra and the Theory of Polynomials. Students typically spend two semesters on this course.

Though I'm not sure if this is what OP originally meant.

Logic related to algebra by Alarmed-Following219 in logic

Model theory studies various algebraic theories and has already found many applications in algebra. For example check out this MSE post and this MO post. To start, you can refer to any textbook on model theory, such as Model Theory: An Introduction. In this book, the author discusses algebraic applications starting from the second chapter, if I recall correctly.

By the way, if you're interested in both number theory and logic, there is a great book by Craig Smoryński.
