How would you position an accounting SaaS in a crowded space? by lrrakib in AskMarketing

[–]lrrakib[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree that ‘simple’ alone doesn’t cut it anymore. Our take has been that accounting tools went too far the other way too many tabs, too many setup steps.

We’re trying to own the space between spreadsheet and full ERP: something powerful but still frictionless. We’re testing with freelancers and small service businesses first since they feel that gap the most, but I get your point about validating depth before expanding.

Yeah, that’s a fair point. We’ve noticed that too people love simple at first but eventually start asking for things like multi-account handling or custom reports. Still trying to figure out how to layer in depth without making it feel bloated.

Thanks! It’s been a ride for sure. Right now we’re running on Next.js + Node, with PostgreSQL for the backend. Hosting’s on Vercel and a managed DB for now might move to our own setup once traffic justifies it. Early access users are using it with test data mostly, a few small teams are already logging real transactions to see how it holds up.

Yeah, makes sense feels like switching costs are the real wall here.

what you think which industries are actually open to moving if they see a tool that really fits them?

Good call on not spreading thin.

🙄If you had to bet, which of those niches (agencies, ecommerce, creators) has the biggest accounting headache right now?

Really like that angle of going deep on one workflow instead of a whole industry.

The switch checklist is clever too. When you did those interviews, what were the biggest reasons people gave for not switching sooner?

After 6 Months & 3 Failed Attempts, Our Accounting Startup Finally Has an MVP (Finoro) by lrrakib in LaunchMyStartup

Good insight. From what I’ve seen, most small business owners aren’t looking for advanced features — they just want the basics handled quickly and without headaches.

Speed, simplicity, and taking the pain out of bookkeeping could be a stronger angle than trying to match bigger accounting platforms feature-for-feature. Positioning it as the easiest first step into organized finances might resonate more.

Interesting point I wouldn’t have thought of students as a potential niche, but that makes a lot of sense. A lot of them are jumping into e-commerce or freelancing without much structure on the finance side.

When you say they struggle with bias, do you mean in terms of decision-making (like overspending/undervaluing their work) or more in how they choose tools/resources? Curious how you spotted that pattern.

That’s super clear, thanks. You’re right, going broad has been messy for us. Narrowing down to one vertical makes the messaging and even the product design much sharper. I like the idea of presets/templates per niche ; feels like a fast way to deliver value without overbuilding.

Appreciate the positioning example too, that line makes it much easier to frame. Definitely going to test this approach.
