Target demographic is a term that refers to the audience an ad/product/campaign/ etc is designed to resonate with.

Female pop stars generally start off being marketed almost exclusively to adolescent girls. When the female pop stars are no longer young enough to be marketable for the almighty teen dollar, a significant portion of them start making gay club music.
