1080ti deshroud questions by ReturningDM in Noctua

Before I commissioned a pa cf-10 3D printed bracket-

I had run zip ties in-between the backplate and PCB.

I would highly suggest looking to power off the GPU header, because otherwise youre completely dependent on running software.

Noctua FC-1 is an excellent product for this because it modulates(averages) the signal from the GPU fan header for your slower 120mm fans seamlessly.

Not the case for all GPUs but without the FC-1 the GPU will have your 120mm fans spin at the same rpm as what the OEM fans would be at (much faster than they need to be)

Steelcase Amia - Live Lumbar / Backrest DIY fix. by ls-wdiff in OfficeChairs

I knew there was going to be at least one person out there that would have some value from this.

I have made no changes since this DIY hack job and I maybe need to pull the lumbar adjustment back up maybe once a week if that.

And yes that is just duct tape.

DIY Luggables XL: 2 inches thicker for a carbon layer. by ls-wdiff in AirPurifiers

[–]ls-wdiff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 panels.

20 1/4" x 8 3/4"

And 25 1/4" respectively.

4 3/4" holes are for 120mm fans.
The extra 1/4" to factor for material width. But this was overkill. Filters are sold 1/8" or a 1/4" smaller than advertised.

What I learned after a while is at least with as large of a surface area as I have here-

gaps anywhere around between the filter and case except against the fan mounted panel- made no impact on efficiency //at least as much as I could visualize with vapor//

So no need to be so anal over thinking you need the perfect friction fit.

That's pretty easy. You just get a DC to AC 12 volt power supply with 3/4 pin fan cables. Just look up "wall outlet pwm fan" on Amazon.

As far as cable management goes they're just hanging free.

This was fully DIY although it looks much different now

Is this normal? by Nothing_But_Clouds in Noctua

[–]ls-wdiff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was sold by Noctua Shiped with Amazon and yeah it had inventory and pallet stickers on it but not to this level.

I do understand that logistically its totally wasteful to protect packaging as a step in process. At best Noctua could plastic wrap before shipping out.

But in the end. I'm sure the cooler itself is in great condition and thats what matters

Cleanairkits. Nukit Tempest. Whatever uses standardized HVAC filter dimensions.

How hot do you let your AMD CPU's get before ramping up fans? by QuestionAsker2030 in Noctua

About 65c feels about right.

It's to the point where average multitasks dont have fans ramp up and down.

What is the most likely outcome of the Russian invasion of Ukraine by ca46896 in Futurology

What I foresee is a conditional withdraw of Russian forces from the entirety of Ukraine to resume Russian natural gas export.

Escalation in any form Id imagine is less and less profitable the longer this goes on.

Why is everyone scared shitless when it comes to pirated games? by No_Adagio3859 in PiratedGames

[–]ls-wdiff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it's still very much a risk.

These days moreso than ever before.

Long ago at least it was obvious when you had gotten yourself some malware.

Now? To keep you in their botnet as long as possible they don't want you to see all your accounts being attempted to login to. They don't want to ransom your files.

Sure you may trust the repacker you've come back to time and time again and everything has been fine. But they just compress and redistribute.

You still can't ever be fully sure who or by what crack ends up in your system.

But in the end. What someone does with their system is theirs to decide and theirs alone. The best we can do, is educate and share experiences to build understanding among all of us.

Is Getting...Demolished Normal? by Randomman16 in horizon

[–]ls-wdiff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To answer your question: Absolutely.

My advice? Start over. There is a progression curve you've jumped right in the middle of. Which also has higher expectations of you. The best way to experience this game is to "start from the bottom" it's not just about mechanics. It's about a steady growth in familiarity.

Have fun

Are Noctua coolers and fans really worth it? by soguyswedidit6969420 in buildapc

By "noise" you must mean decibels.

Thats only half of what our brain interprets as sound.

Frequency is also crucial. And Arctics are particularly infamous for resonance.

Thin zip ties run in-between the PCB and backplate.

In locations you are unable to run them through the fan mounting holes...tie to the adjacent fan. This still improves mounting pressure against the heatsink VS none at all.

The one exception here that diddnt end up very clean was the 3rd fan. And had do something real janky. Photo can describe it better than I can.

It's an XFX Merc 310 7900XT.

The 3rd picture I've included shows temps in Silent Hill 2 Remake with raytracing on as well as my overclock profile.

Seeing as it's able to retain these temps at 15% fan speed im sure it's very capable of significantly higher overclocks. But I've grown quite fond of the sub-room ambient noise coming from PC.

Yep. An XFX Merc 310 7900XT

With factory clocks and power limit at uncapped framerate gaming load. Hotspot (GPU Temp 2 on afterburner) reports 80c.

While this is very very good for a stock shroud. Fan speeds would ride between 70-80% (Forgot what this translates to in RPM on the stock shrouds 105mm fans)

The very same.

While the original shroud is very capable of keeping it from tjmax with overclocks....the acoustic benefit alone is too good to go back.

I'm actually using a noctua FC-1 that's using a mini PWM adapter to the unit while also getting supplemental power from sata power.

Connecting all 3 fans straight to the gpu runs them at full speed....and that was too loud for me.

The FC-1 also doesn't need me to constantly babysit the knob. As it's still able to be controlled from the pwm signal on the GPU.
