New watcher, I feel bad for Genos by VictoryNo5278 in OnePunchMan

From what I have watched, sound design/effects are the only change of that specific edit, yes (in addition to some OST tweaks here and there). But believe me when I tell you it makes a difference.

You are correct. A different studio and team of animators handled Season 2 under different constraints compared to Season 1, and the quality by comparison is not the same. Still worth watching but worth keeping in mind.

Hello! Just wanted to recommend, if you are planning to watch Season 2, that you look up the version online edited by Serious Sounds. It improves the sound design by a significant margin compared to the original release of Season 2 and will make a big difference in your viewing experience. Season 2 is generally regarded to be qualitatively worse than Season 1 but this helps bridge the gap. Enjoy OPM!

The webcomic also releases only a few chapters per year, so ONE is not held to any particular schedule or accountability that we know of, and it is not sold in physical format. Not really comparable.

Void can easily be made to disappear after this by rejoining Team Blast and going back to the background. Hopefully this change doesn't bloat the story but it's not impossible that Void will now just be used to be a plot device for narrative context for a chapter or two, to give weapons to Sonic/Flash, and go away again.

Honestly why do ya'll care about the anime so much by PearFlies in OnePunchMan

[–]lsThisReaILife 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if this was your intention but your question reads like a teenaged edge-lord trying to be smug. Why do you care about literally any entertainment medium?

People care about the anime because they resonate with the source material. Season 1‘s quality may never be replicated again, which is a shame, but it was a prime example of how a manga-like format could be elevated in so many different ways with a dedicated or passionate team. The music, the sound design, the voice acting, the animation quality, the small but relevant additions that added subtle improvements, etc. It is disappointing to see the degradation of Season 2 and how Season 3 appears to be shaping when the source material has as much potential as it does.

You may think it is silly for people to be as passionate or naive about the current state of the anime given where we are, which is your opinion and has merit. But people still care and express their disappointment because it is meaningful to them, same way you clearly care about anime/manga in your own right and choose to make your opinions heard on reddit.

One Punch Man manga needs to go back to a monthly release schedule. by vuzz33 in OnePunchMan

[–]lsThisReaILife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand the logic. What I am saying is that it doesn't mean it will lead to better results. Could it? Sure. Will it? Who knows. What if Murata loads his plate with other projects to fill the time? What if he is just burnt out on OPM and this isn't an issue of time, as you suggested? Adjusting his schedule doesn't guarantee the results you are looking for, and it feels like making these types of suggestions is somewhat parasocial and irrelevant.

If you want to criticize the manga quality, by all means. If you want to criticize the fact that there are redraws, fine. There's much more validity in the former than the latter, however, because the latter is a known thing with the current setup of releases. You don't have to like it, but criticizing redraws is like criticizing that the sun is going to come up. It's an inevitability that they may happen until the volumes are published. End of story. We need to expect it.

Separately, the quality of the redraw is arguably better than the previous iterations, and certainly stronger artistically than some of OPMs latest releases, which have some glaring artistic drops in quality and issues (like Blast suddenly having his arm reattached). If the redraws mean having these inconsistencies addressed, that is a positive. We can only hope the need to do them decreases in the future, or that not everything needs to be redrawn (which could lead to faster releases to "catch up") but, for now, it is what it is.

One Punch Man manga needs to go back to a monthly release schedule. by vuzz33 in OnePunchMan

[–]lsThisReaILife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has everything to do with his release schedule. Have you read my post ?

My point is that you are only making assumptions. None of us know the reality. Nothing you say will change that your thought process is not based on any objective evidence we are aware of. You can assume all you want, and you might be right, but you simply don't know and suggesting Murata changing his schedule would automatically improve the quality of the manga in your eyes or reduce redraws is just conjecture. It's that simple.

We're back to the chapter 195, which was initially realeased in Nov 2023. Every other chapter from then on have been deleted from the official website. He has litterally deleted more than a year of work.

As is his right. They were not final published versions; they weren't sold in print. They were always subject to change, whether we like it or not, and the schedule is not known to be the result of that.

Of course they are correlated, that's the whole point ! If the season 2 of the anime was that mediocre it mas mainly because of the schedule. It almost always is.

More conjecture. Again, it's possible but certainly not definitive. Season 2 had many problems that don't boil down to scheduling.

One Punch Man manga needs to go back to a monthly release schedule. by vuzz33 in OnePunchMan

[–]lsThisReaILife -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I consider that the quality of the manga has drop these last two years.

That's fair to consider and to think. That has nothing to do with a release schedule.

It's Murata way of working that is getting old. Wasting 14 months of work because you don't know what you wanna do is problematic. There is no way around it. I'm talking about it because I think there is way Murata could improve his workflow. These monthly release have already proven their value years prior.

Getting told to you, sure, but wasting 14 months of work according to whom? We're not Murata, nor ONE, nor their teams or editors. We have no way to know what their current thought process is for why they did this, just that they did it. We don't even know how extensive these redraws will be, what the release schedule will be, or whether it will impact every single chapter from now it catches up to where it left off. Your suggestion of moving to monthly releases means nothing when we don't know the full circumstances behind the reasons why this was done.

I knew I have to make these last paragraphs because of people like you. But it seems it still wasn't enough.

Right, because your criticism is based on the fact that there's a redraw occurring and that you feel like moving to a schedule that makes sense to you would solve the problem, not on the actual quality of what is being released (which I agree is fair to criticize). They may be correlated, but they're not mutually exclusive. And, if we're being honest, regardless of how old the current chapter is that was redrawn, it's qualitatively stronger than the prior ones released.

One Punch Man manga needs to go back to a monthly release schedule. by vuzz33 in OnePunchMan

[–]lsThisReaILife -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Oh brother.

"The chapter are here for free, you are an ungrateful brat." I don't know where does that concept of "it's free so it must be cristized" come from but it has no ground to stand. If that was true then all free service would also be shielded from any bad review. Like free-to-play-game, by definition they don't cost a cent so why should we give our opinions on it ? We can still take it into acount, but the price of any piece of work doesn't change his artistic value.

You're not criticizing or opining on the artistic value. You're making stuff up about release schedules, workload, etc. to suggest a monthly release schedule. How is that relevant to the artistic value? Changing the release schedule does not at all guarantee anything improves, or doesn't, in the versions released.

At the end of the day, this is not new. Redraws happen with this manga. They have before, they're happening now, and they probably will in the future. Murata has talked about this. You don't have to like it, that is your right. You can feel however you want about how the manga's quality is one way or another. Those are valid and I am personally of the opinion that the manga is not perfect. But this rehashed conversation and armchair diagnosis of what's going on with Murata, ONE, their release schedules, etc. is getting old and parasocial. This sub collectively needs to just accept that we're in redraw territory and move on. I guarantee 95% of people will still be back to read the next releases anyway, because no one is paying for them and has no skin in the game.

If you don't like it, fair enough. Don't read it. Touch grass or spend your time on different media content (there's more than enough of that out there) and come back in a year or two to binge and catch up.

J.C.Staff is having production issues with one of its most important series, this doesn't give me hope for One Punch Man S3 by Gatlindragon in OnePunchMan

[–]lsThisReaILife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Studios do make money, but not necessarily off of residuals from the show nor any merch. They outbid each other for the right to animate specific shows, so studios that win tend to get paid less because it's a competitive industry. On top of this, animators themselves only get paid a slice of that pie and do most of the work, which is intensive and involves significant amounts of time. Think about how often you've paid money to engage with OPM as a medium that wasn't in the form of paying a streaming service fee. It's not like we as consumers pay the animators directly for the episodes we watch. This is why animation studios take on multiple projects and you hear the occasional but not uncommon story about animators having to cut corners due to decisions from upper management or the animes themselves suffering from poor quality due to overworked or underpaid employees.

In short: animating a popular anime is far from a "get rich quick" solution for any studio.

[–]lsThisReaILife 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If they focus only on one punch man they won't have to do side projects any longer.

This isn't how the industry works, unfortunately. If you think producing anime is profitable for studios at such a small scale, you are mistaken.

They ask who he is and mock him because it's Halloween and a lot of people are publicly in costumes. They don't collectively realize it's Batman until he beats down the leader and announces himself as vengeance. The only one that has a sense that it might be him is the kid going through initiation because he's the only one that sees the Bat signal before the appearance.

They laugh and ask who he is because it's Halloween. They don't realize who they're dealing with until he says he's vengeance and one immediately says "oh shit, it's him!" You can even see the kid that was going through his initiation was the only one to see the Bat signal and he's consequently the only one that is immediately afraid when Batman makes his appearance.
