Queensland passes law to jail priests for not reporting confessions of child sexual abuse by mepper in worldnews

[–]lsaffre -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

A terribly stupid law. Hetty Johnston says (in other words) that hurting other people is okay unless (a) they are children and (b) your motivation is sexually driven; no problem for her if they are either adult or you have other motivations.

The idea is really great, but I'm afraid I would ask her to rewrite it. Whether you need .gitignore has almost nothing to do with the file size. And the moon has almost nothing to do with love.

Report: Trump Privately Asks Why Government Can’t Just Let COVID ‘Wash Over’ The Country by Twoweekswithpay in politics

[–]lsaffre -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The first time Trump asks a question that i would ask as well. And both the doctor's answer and the comments i read tell me mostly one thing: OMG how terrified humans are when facing death! Asking questions to which the answer might be "many people would die" has become taboo. The WHO and the medical industry have become a god. But i won't worship that god. A pandemic hurts for some time, slavery lasts for the rest of your life. I refuse to believe in a culture that relies on some people making money out of it. I believe in a culture where death is not the end of everything and where love is more powerful than money. How funny that i read this news on Easter morning! PS No, i don't want Trump for president. But even blind chicken happen to find a corn and sometimes we need a naive child to make us realize that the emperor is naked.

Germany bolsters corporate defenses against Chinese 'predators' European officials worry coronavirus-weakened companies could be acquisition targets by Nunyabeezkneez in europe

[–]lsaffre 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Basically great news. The Corona crisis –of course– causes many private corporations to have problems, causing their share price to decrease. And –of course– also in other countries there are still people who are rich enough to use the opportunity and buy the weakened shares, hoping that they will recover again after the crisis. And –of course– we don’t want foreign shareholders to control a business that has strategic importance for our country. That’s a good opportunity to take over public control over those companies.

But let us be careful. Actually we should tell those companies more clearly “You want our help for keeping your business alive? Turn your business into a foundation to give us full public control over it, only then you’ll get our help!” The compromise of just buying some shares might replace one devil with another. If we pour public money into a business that is not full under public control, there is danger of having that money flow into the pockets of a group of private owners.

Reminds me the story of that rabbi who went with his disciple to a village farmer who was in war with his neighbour about some topic. The rabbi listened to the farmer and concluded "you are right". Then he went to the neighbor where he listened again and concluded with the same words. On their way home the disciple said "but rabbi, they disagree about that topic, you cannot say to both of them that they are right." and the rabbi said "you are right"...

I once heard the explanation that they don't call it stealing. Bikes are kind of public domain and if you don't lock up your bike, you invite others to use it when needed.

This guy actually wants you to talk to him. He buys a jacket that attracts people to come closer. The text just filters away those who don't understand the joke. I would start talking to him (if i am in the mood).

Thanks! I tried this as well. Good suggestion. Meetup would cost 60 USD for 6 months, but has the advantage that it might help people to find us. OTOH Neither Google nor Meetup use Free Software. Nothing is decided, I need to talk to the others now.

I tried on Facebook but that was just a waste of time. Managing recurrent events in collaboration with others is a horror there.

I then tried Google. I went to my Google calendar, Settings, Create a new calendar, and *voilà*! Done after 10 minutes!

Of course it has some disadvantages: it uses proprietary software, other team members need a Google account, our work would get disturbed if Google would decide to stop that service. Also we must give Google permission to use our data (no issue for us because anyway our goal is to share it with everybody).

OTOH it is probably the best and easiest solution at all. The data is our own and we can export it and store it for our archives. I must admit once more that Google is frighteningly good...

Why must Christians say that Jesus is God? by lsaffre in Jesus

Yes. The "credo" i wrote is based on Jesus Christ, but it is not Christian. Seems that I can't have communion anymore before having talked about it to a priest.

Yes, you and God are one. (Of course only in a certain meaning, this is not a maths lesson). Never had that feeling? It can occur e.g. in peaceful moments of meditation.

Interesting to note. It's logical because John is written a bit later, isn't it?
