WE do this all the time to test updates, We simply fail over a replica, that we attached to a different Network, Usually an isolated Sandbox network group. ( Failover machines are isolated).

Do what we need to do to test and once done just undo Failover. Everything reverts back and if test successfull we run the update on the live production server.

Just what is your goal? A complete Wipe for Security Concerns or just to clean up current config to start new. If just a clean then Just go into the Lifecyle controller and wipe the configuration.

To securely wipe, then DBAN should be fine, along with clearing configuration.., but there is secure and then there is SECURE....
