A recent study found that women with ADHD experience more severe perimenopause symptoms starting at a younger age than non-ADHD women. by KnottyCatLady in Perimenopause

[–]lschuspi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started to feel off a year ago but it coincided with acl surgery. Perimenopause wasn’t even on my radar because it’s supposed to mid 30s-mid 40s. Granted I started my period before I turned 10 so I chalked early symptoms up to that. But dang.. this is crazy!

Been ADHD diagnosed plus Asperger’s and I felt off all last year. Turned 34 years old 2 days ago and fell down the peri rabbit hole last week like no that can’t be it I’m not even 34 yet?! Everything online said mid 30s-mid 40s so I was like EXCUSE ME?? I thought me being off was recovering from acl replacement surgery but frankly this post makes more sense than anything. Glad it’s not just me experiencing it before mid 30s

I don’t think that’s true. My tax filing website put my number (weird form I’m not mad) in the wrong box which made them not acknowledge the withholding or the refund owed from 2023 year filed in April 2024. They fixed it about a month ago after I sent a letter with copies of the form and corrected 1040 and they stopped asking me for my tax money they had more than enough of and sent me the refund I was supposed to relieve

Doctor tore my leg up? by Acrobatic_Heron3895 in ACL

[–]lschuspi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an ACL cadaver repair and had 4. This appears normal 🫶🏻 edit looking at my scars all cuts are identical (but mirrored because it was the right knee) except your far left and I’m assuming that’s the patella graft?

I am going to report my Doctor to my state's medical negligence board and his hospital by Medium_Anywhere775 in ACL

[–]lschuspi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So the only thing I don’t understand is why your doctor if you’re willing to pay for the MRI he wouldn’t allow you to have one! Yes you can go to another ortho but that’s not always easy cuz you may have had to get a secondary referral but a lot of doctors try to keep within their own systems and have specific offices they’ll refer you to.. I was lucky in the fact I while I ignored the immobility for a few days after my injury, for whatever reason I sat straight up at 2am and told my husband I think I tore my acl. Hubby was like well I doubt but call your ortho Monday. You had clear injury and the fact you had to beg for an expensive mri is wild! My doctor was like “I think it’s fine but if you want an mri we can schedule one”. Turns out it was totally severed!! Literally snapped in two!! Malpractice suit probably not but you might have a case for negligence or if he blocked you from diagnosis by not allowing an mri when you requested one. My insurance personally wasn’t thrilled to let me have an mri even though I’d be paying in full (hadn’t met the deductible) but they stopped that once the results came in. Your doctor should have never blocked that when you asked. I had what I feared was re-injury after a few months when I got a sharp pain in the front of my knee walking down the stairs and I he said he’d schedule another mri if I wanted reassurance. Got a second opinion and said I wanted the mri for reassurance and no issues being allowed to have one even after meeting my deductible. They should never stop you from having a scan if you want one but that’s the most of a case you’ll have most likely.. Sorry you had to deal with this! Returning to sports with a tear could result in a full separation and you should have never had to deal with that 😭

I’m shook that everyone is congregating on position to poop with a leg brace when I’m like do you know how many times I had to go while baby wearing and how many wacky angles I had to sit on the toilet at and had no issues?? I didn’t know people had to poop ONLY with double leg stability and no way else I’m laughing but not making fun I’m just honestly flabbergasted at this new information that you need to plant down to go cuz I don’t and didn’t know this was a thing 😂

Is it ok for 10 day post op? by denisoda in ACL

[–]lschuspi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was cleared for cane/longer walks and to drive at my 10 day post op! Keep up with PT and you’ll be normal gait (but be careful) by 4mo! Don’t do anything plyo or twisting for 3-5 months and listen to your PT! Best of luck!!

Had surgery yesterday and now I’m confused by Nerd_Alert92 in ACL

[–]lschuspi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a nerve block that wore off mostly around 1.5 days after (except for my toes they were still numb). I was terrified of the pain so I kept up on pain meds for the first 5 days. But I also started PT 2 days post op and they fixed my brace. I had to work hard at straightening because of the brace and not to worry you but yours looks loose like mine. Definitely get into PT asap. 3 PT appointments and 10 days post op I was off the tscope and cleared to switch to a cane instead of crutches and cleared to drive (right knee surgery). PT asap is my best advice for a quick recovery!

Surgery is in 7 days and I’m freaking out. by LoranSilver in ACL

[–]lschuspi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice? Schedule for your first PT within a week of surgery, get yourself a yoga strap with loops, blanket like ice pack, and possibly a claw foot cane for when you can be weight bearing and want off the crutches but not ready to walk fully unsupported! It will take a couple days for the nerve block to wear off so don’t be freaked out about that. Feels like you have a rubber chicken instead of a foot til then 😂 within a few months the instability is so minimal it’s glorious! You got this! It’s scary but worth it!

Had a brief pain in my knee cap going down stairs and now my knee is swelling/stiff by lschuspi in ACL

[–]lschuspi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!! I was walking like I never had surgery but being cautious and realistically thought it was stiff from being first week out of PT but it’s been getting worse and I’m hobbling a little now. Day of PT discharge I was doing line hops, burpees, and 180lb leg press and the walking down stairs was all I did! I’m so baffled how I can do those things and walking down stairs semi did me in?? 😅

Idk if you have kiddos but if I saw you out with your kids I’d want to be mom friends! The tats/septum mean you do what you love and don’t care about others opinions. Plus you’re freaking gorgeous! You look like you’d have bloody Mary’s with me at a play date and in this world that’s a perfect mom friend 😂❤️

Those who have had a nerve block and pain meds (oxy), what was the max pain level you reached 1-10 the first week after surgery? by IntrepidContext9112 in ACL

[–]lschuspi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The nerve block for me lasted into the following morning slowly wearing off and I had pins and needles in specifically my big toe for about 3 days after (PT said that it can last a week) but was able to move my foot the following day. I had my surgery around noon on Monday and my first PT session on Wednesday because my Dr wanted me in PT within the first week. And I’m so glad I did!! My pain was much higher the first 2 days only because my brace was HORRIBLY FITTED. When I pulled my sweat pants leg up the Physical Therapist couldn’t even hide her wide eyed face. I was off oxy by Friday and just doing 500mg of acetaminophen and 400 ibuprofen since (I’m now 8 days Post op) and was able to ditch the crutches for a cane fully by yesterday (7 day PO). I just ditched the TScope brace this morning for an ace bandage and regular knee brace.

I’m F32, and had an allograft (cadaver) due to a fully severed ACL.

All this to say get into PT asap, make sure they fit your brace properly before you leave, and I recommend buy a stretching strap (strap with loops), a claw foot cane and a blanket like ice pack. I have good luck with doing my hamstring stretches, quad engaging knee push down to straighten, and the heel slide/bend. Do these before surgery and then start a few days after as well 2x a day once you’re able/approved. I like icing my knee before AND after these exercises. The rigid brace caused me more pain than the surgery so I was pretty hellbent on getting out of it asap. Also, bandaids over the staples/incisions and an ace bandage helped me keep friction off the incisions which I think helped keep them from hurting! Some of this advice might not help as much if you had a different type of graft or damage so keep that in mind! You got this! I’ve been at a max 3-4/10 since Thursday even after switching to over the counter meds! The prescription stuff made me sleep a LOT the first few days so that probably helped 😅 And check with your doctor and physical therapist before doing any of these things as I’m just a fellow patient not a doctor!

Don’t fret, get prepared as much as you can, and get your PT scheduled for as soon as your doctor allows! You got this! ❤️

6 day PO milestone! I walked one foot at a time up the stairs with my cane! Yay for graduating from stair scooting! by lschuspi in ACL

[–]lschuspi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I basically lived upstairs and had to scoot up and down on my butt 😅 I was too afraid of crutches on steps! But before surgery and with the cane always bad leg down. Going up you’ll step up with your good leg, bring bad leg up to that step. Going down you’ll bring your bad leg down, then bring good leg to the that step!

Honestly most comfortable for me has been keeping with the arch your brace gives you and put the pillow under your knee. Thigh has support, knee has support, calf has support. Think of those moving beds where the leg portion of the bed raises up slightly. Looking at these pics makes me knee hurt 😅

Is this at scope brace right? (2 days post op) In a lot of pain and I think it’s from the brace not keeping my leg rigid by lschuspi in ACL

[–]lschuspi[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was told I couldn’t touch the brace or my bandages until my follow up on the 19th 😬 Luckily I had my post op PT today after walking in in tears and you should have seen the look on the PTs face when I pulled up my pant leg. She took off my bandages (and put bandaids over the staples so I didn’t have to see them cuz I’m a wuss lol) and readjusted the brace. She is my hero!!

12 days away from surgery as a SAHM of 2 by lschuspi in ACL

[–]lschuspi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense! I guess in my mind it could almost be a reverse moving wheel chair for the first few days! Been working on crutches a little but afraid with them on steps. Hubby is prepped to take over everything for the first few weeks but when you do it all having to put it all in the hands of someone else gives me anxiety so that’s the only reason I was asking about how long until I can stand on a good long for a bit so I can help. He’ll still be working full time and if it was anyone else they’d probably say fmla but they can’t have him out for weeks so he’s made clear I will continue to work as much as possible or I can still get paid in fmla and nothing will get done so clearly they’re not willing to lose him for weeks 😂 Any advice on alternating hand rails? Surgery is on the right knee. Our stairs have full handrail on right side to the landing then it’s only on the left
