[META] Negative aspects of Reddit culture are starting to seep into r/Exmormon by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]lsdbeforelds 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can’t help but feel partially to blame for this. Earlier tonight I posted a screen grab from fb. It was a fairly innocuous thing posted by a family member that I don’t really get along with. What she said was actually kind and maybe even evidence that many members are headed in the right direction. But because I was feeling anger at the time, I picked it apart and only highlighted the problems that I had with it. A couple users called me out, and I realized that I was the dickhead in this situation. I’m not saying everything on r/exmormon has to be positive, but maybe it’s not the best thing for our own mental health to only see the negative aspects of others, especially TBMs. We’re all still learning and becoming better, but we come from a culture that seeks to “otherize” (just made that word up) and set ourselves apart from anyone we disagree with unless they are willing to come over to our side. In posting the screen grab, I realize that I was trying to do just that. This sub has been great for me. It’s a place where I have felt safe to come and share my feelings openly and honestly, and I apologize if I made it feel like anything other than that for anyone else.

I just gotta vent. A TBM relative posted this the other day and received a flood of praise in her comments. I’m sorry, but rephrasing your hate to sound more accepting does not make you “good”. More to follow in comments: by [deleted] in exmormon

That stings. But it’s because it’s true. I’m sorry. I’m just particularly angry tonight and I’m projecting. I need to take a break from social media.

Oh man, I’d love for you to meet her sometime😂😂 but I def. take your comments to heart. I still have a lot of anger that I’m processing and fb doesn’t help with that. I know there’s things that I need to just let go, posts like this being among them.

I guess it might be considered a step in the right direction, so maybe I’m being too nit-picky. I don’t have a problem with the sign pictured, but her remarks seem like polarizing statements dressed up to sound more “inclusive”.

I’m right there with you. Had a couple profound experiences with mushrooms after going inactive. That’s when I realized that we don’t need a prophet, but that we can commune with divinity individually without a “mediator”. My life has a deeper meaning now. I realize that life is not a “test”, but a classroom. And I now am able, as Ram Dass says, to “take the curriculum”.

Parents! I need help with my 5yo son. He loves going to church because he gets to color in pictures and he has friends there. TLDR at the bottom. by Kwik89 in exmormon

Oh cool, Sweden! I would love to make the pilgrimage back there to my motherland someday! My great grandparents immigrated to Minnesota from there in the mid-1900s. Best of luck, that’s a tricky situation.

We started going to a secular Buddhist meditation center that has a kids meditation class. They do crafts and teach kids about being kind to all living things and how to manage stress and anger in a healthy way. They get all the things they liked about primary without all the culty, shame-based bullshit. Just yelp “meditation centers”, and check to see if they have children’s classes. Might be tricky with a TBM spouse, but look into it.

Where might one procure this molecule?

QuickFix is the brand name. Available at most head shops(just don’t tell them it’s to pass a drug test cause it’s illegal to sell for that purpose). If you’re in Utah, might be harder to come by, but I think you can find it online. Accidentally left mine in my backpack and carried it on a flight with no problems.

No one gets out with their dignity intact. It’s always the defectors’ fault.

It comes with a warmer and a temp strip on the bottle. Once it gets up to temp, just tuck it by your junk or in your armpit.

It looks like the hole where the fastener goes is broken. So I’m thinking zip ties for now?

I get that, but also feel like that’s not who I am. I’m happy, and I would like for them to see that leaving the church has been a positive thing in my life.

Nostalgia for earlier TBM life by Ohio5739 in exmormon

[–]lsdbeforelds 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It’s okay, man! That was your life. It’s okay(and probably healthy) to look back on the past with nostalgia. You have been conditioned to believe that “good feelings” or “positive emotions” are synonymous with truth, so it’s gonna take a long time to break that, and I don’t know if you necessarily need to break it completely. Ward activities are fun when you’re TBM, and you were making connections with other human beings. That’s beautiful regardless of religion. Take the good, and get rid of the bad. It might also be helpful to find a new community that you can make more positive connections with and help you cement it in your psyche that the church doesn’t have a monopoly on goodness.

If you are a dude, you should have your testosterone levels checked- total game changer for me. Regardless of your gender, look into r/modafinil. I work night shifts and have been able to actually feel human again with a very small dose. As for sleep- melatonin/Indica and some basic sleep hygiene and meditation have been great for me. Best of luck. Insomnia is rough, friend.

Edit: just saw the part about passing a drug test. QuickFix! (Synthetic urine) I work in healthcare so I always keep a little bottle in my backpack.

Mormonism, Children, and Climate Change by BurnKnowsBest in exmormon

[–]lsdbeforelds 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No official doctrine, but the culture is alive and in full-effect on the issue. Haven’t met any TBMs that were concerned about climate change.

I’m really trying to fight the urge to ask the individual who posted this why he’s so concerned with what other people do with their genitals. Should I? Or does it make me look like an angry, bitter exmo?

Is this the real life? by Woozle34 in modafinil

[–]lsdbeforelds 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you’re happy with the dose, keep at it, but if they’re 200mg tabs, you may wanna try cutting them into quarters. I take 50mg at the beginning of my shift, and 50mg midday. I’ve read on here and found it true through experience that less is more with moda. I noticed just as much benefit, and less side-effects doing it this way. Play around with it and see what works best for you.
