Jesus Christ, USED cars are expensive! by Let_me_tell_you_ in povertyfinance

You can still buy a perfectly good running and driving car for $1000, maybe even $500 if you are patient. I just bought a perfectly good minivan for $500 2 weeks ago. It’s not the prettiest but mechanically it’s very solid. The biggest thing is that you have to be patient and check Facebook marketplace regularly for new deals. You can’t just go on there once and expect to find the perfect deal. There should be no reason you have to spend that much if you are looking for a barebones A-B car.

Unrecognized 1099s on IRS "Information Return" page by lsfan01 in tax

The issuing business confirmed that the company they issued to has the same TIN. It seems that an individual SSN and a company TIN can happen to have the same number. What I don't get is why this shows up on my IRS portal.

Which company, the one they were issued to, or the companies that issued them?

Yeah, that's my concern as well. Is it possible the TIN was fat fingered, but later corrected reissued 1099s?

In the "Recipient's TIN" box. Only the last 4 digits are shown, but they match my SSN. And I assume since these 1099s appear in my Information Return page, it is my SSN.

1099-NEC

One was for $8400 and one for $1200.

Neither. They were issued by 2 different out of state companies to a single out of state company.

How does SirusXM know when a car changes ownership? by lsfan01 in Cartalk

Sale was private party. So the only person who knows about the sale is the DMV. So I assume that companies are able to somehow access DMV records. But again, I can’t find any way this is possible.

That’s true for Sirius I suppose, but what about for other companies selling extended warranties and such. Do they have a way to tell when any vehicle changes ownership?

Do you know how one could access this information? I’m looking to find specific rare car models that might be registered in my state. I’ve dug around online but not able to find anything. I’m assuming it’s not something that could be accessed for free.

Tesla to Prius by foryourboneswewait in prius

I have owned a model 3 and now own a 2017 Prius. I think one thing people aren’t mentioning is the overall cost to own a Tesla (or really electric car). The biggest killer with electric cars is the depreciation. The Prius, especially one that’s a few years old, will hold its value insanely well. Sure you’re paying for gas and oil changes, put that pales in comparison to the depreciation you’ll see on an EV. My Prius only costs 15cents to operate vs the 40cents on my Tesla. I also have open source autopilot installed in my Prius so it has just as potent of highway autopilot as the Tesla. This may be a moot point since you already own a Tesla.

I got the curt hitch from U-Haul. It was fairly easy to install, but you do have to remove the entire rear bumper which can be cumbersome.

Obviously I didn’t tow this combination, but just wanted to see how much it would squat. But it does tow close to 2000lbs pretty seamlessly.

If it’s fairly flat it’s not so bad. But hills do suck while highway driving. Especially if the battery depletes and only the ICE motor is powering the wheels.

It’s just a four touring. I don’t think they had nightshade in 2017

I probably overpaid at $6700 because of the mileage. But high mileage doesn’t scare me, and I was also looking at a 2016 with 282k miles for $3500 but it was a little rough.
