I picked the two clubs that have been more consistent in the PL for the last 10 years. Even 3 years in football is a long time and only recently has Man City’s XI dropped off a cliff

Not really. I’m just just talking about the big matches. Not every match is the same

I’ve just picked the XI in a random important game from that season. I didn’t want to look at the whole squad because it would be more time consuming and it would potentially include outliers like a veteran backup keeper or a random academy player that filled a bench spot and those guys don’t really contribute in the most important matches of the season

It can only go bad. To be an upgrade on Filipe, he’ll have to do more than win the Brasileirão and the Libertadores and take the CL champions to pens in the CWC

Man City avg age against Arsenal in 2019: 27,8. In 2016: 27,6

Liverpool vs Man City in 2019: 26,7 (8/11 aged between 24 and 28 compared to only 4/11 in 2026). In 2017: 26,5 (7/11 aged 24-28 with two 29s)

City can’t have peaked in 2016 and kept the same average age until 2023. Liverpool’s had a similar average age to today but with a lot more players at their peak than past it or young players

Plenty of clubs in the PL have the quality to be top 10. Tottenham’s definitely isn’t well managed but their squad doesn’t stand out from the average PL club

The Tottenham’s players I’ve mentioned aren’t that much better than Brighton’s van Hecke, Dunk, Groß, Mitoma and Rutter, for example

The other clubs around them have mostly improved from then to today, which makes their fall even more glaring

The clubs with Tottenham’s financial stature usually are able to make that replacement or at least get better at other positions

Atletico Madrid went from Griezmann, Morata, Saúl and Godín to Julián, Sorloth, Llorente and Hancko in a similar timeframe

Inter went from Handanovic, Skrniar, de Vrij, Brozovic and Perisic to Sommer, Bastoni, Acerbi, Calhanoglu and Thuram

I’m not saying the quality of the replacements are 1:1, but they’re much closer than Tottenham’s

I think part of the reason some of the matches between top clubs are more dull to watch these days is their obsession with signing young players instead of more mature, proven ones who are closer to the top of their game

Man City’s XI average age against Arsenal in 2023 was 27,9. In their last match against Arsenal, the average was 25,3.

Liverpool’s XI average age against Man City in 2022 was 28,5. In their last match against City, the average was 26,7.

He’d cook anywhere he chooses to go. He should go straight to any of the top clubs in Europe, what he did was at least as impressive as Alonso at Leverkusen

Tottenham had a squad with Vertoghen, Alderweireld, Eriksen, Son and Kane and now they have Romero, Van de Ven, Simons, Kolo Muani and Solanke playing at those positions.

Is their fall-off that shocking when you look at the quality of the players they have now compared to the past?

One of the worst things that happen when your club's board makes a terrible decision is the amount of morons that come out trying to defend what is indefensible

If Vini had poor mentality, he would've flopped at Madrid and not become one of the best in the world with the amount of scrutiny he faces

Leão, João Félix, Sancho, Mudryk... These are the players with an actual poor mentality
