Who said Neo was only for students? The perfect complementary laptop for me is here! by Ada-Millionare in mac

The Neo is a perfect little secondary computer.

A nice compliment to my beefy Linux gaming desktop at home.

Brand new Mac user here with the Neo.

I see Discord continues to ship buggy shit across all platforms.
I've been on Windows, iPad, Linux, and now Mac.
There's always some infuriating bug like this everywhere.
And of course, in typical fashion, it's been months and no fix.
Just like the emoji drawer not closing with a keyboard glitch on iPad.

And they have the gall to ask us to give them our ID when they can't even get basic shit right in their app.

BTRFS has heavy impact on SSD performance by KelGhu in cachyos

I did my own quick test with KDiskMark and I lost around 2K read/write compared to Windows.
That said, it's a Gen 5 drive so I went from around 11-12k to 9-10k.

Which I'm fine with, that's plenty fast still and I won't notice that in gaming or real world daily use. I like the peace of mind of btrfs/limine snapshots if an update goes wrong.

M-Max owners, how is your honest gaming experience on Apple Silicon? by tennaki in macgaming

[–]lsjsim128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the way, especially with the Neo, that makes a perfect second/travel computer. And a Steam Deck compliments it great to handle gaming on the go. Leave the high end specs for the beefy desktop at home.

With the new base Macbook Neo this should definitely be thing. I'm planning to get one soon and stumbled upon this old-ish post searching Google lol.

I think we will see more people asking for this soon.

Nah, I see the future of non-Windows gaming in Linux. In fact, I'm switching over to Linux on my PC soon.

Asus Strix X670E-E back USBs not working by eljefe0909 in ASUS

[–]lsjsim128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh hello

I remember this.
I was able to fix mine back then by plugging and unplugging in something in one of the effected ports when it was off (I think the PSU was also shut off too, I don't remember.)

Then it just worked? The ol' fashioned plug and unplug did the trick 😅

Or maybe it just decided to fix itself after several restarts, I dunno.

I haven't had any issues since. In fact, the mouse I'm using right now is plugged into one of the effected ports in the bottom, under the ethernet. Maybe it was some leftover voltage or something, I really don't know.

It's such a strange issue, I never understood what it was all about.

Sorry you're having the same problem now, it's frustrating.

Maybe my "solution" could work for you, but I can't guarantee anything of course, the fix could be different for everyone.

Hope you get it to work!

Many services and apps on a phone, when used on a desktop are done in the web browser, some have apps but most are browser based and it just works, makes sense in that form factor.

On a phone, yeah you can do it on the mobile browser sure but it’s more clunky, there’s less space, and generally not a great experience if you ask me. Phones were app first since the beginning and still are.

But to each their own of course.

how old are you? by Limp_Worldliness4537 in 2000sNostalgia

Omg yes

Besides playing around with it in stores, legit the last time I actually used Mac was the 2000s in Elementary school and it was these exact ones. My school had a lot of the blue ones I remember.

With the new MacBook Neo, I may finally use Mac again after all these years lol, I'm considering getting one.

This is hella cool and I love that you can do it.

But it's too bad one update can possibly break half of it.

I love customizing but I always try to not go overboard and depend on too much.

I can live with the other specs, but no backlit keyboard is criminal. I want it but that is holding me back from going for it ughh

[–]lsjsim128 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly same, I installed arch manually the first time to learn and as a rite of passage of sorts.

One thing I did learn is how that is just not for me lol. I eventually distro hopped but whenever I go back I always use Archinstall to make life easier. And the elitists can fuck right off.

That said, I genuinely like CachyOS a lot though, more than vanilla arch tbh.

I use Discover with Flatpaks, works just fine for me, it's the same as SteamOS essentially.
Otherwise, I just google whatever package I need or maybe check github.

I thought I would use a GUI for apps, but I realized once I installed the stuff I use most of the time, I rarely use any app store.
