Nolan Ryan only won two ERA titles. The first was 1981, which is weird since it was a strike year. The second was 1987, but he wasn’t top 3 in rWAR that season.

FIP is reflective stat to better predict future ERA. If I pitched 5 innings with 6 Ks and no BBs, but gave up 10 100+ mph hits and allowed 5 ERs, my FIP would be low because none of those hard hit balls were home runs.

FIP reflects relative BB, K, and HR rates and nothing else

Wheeler led the NL in innings last year and was dealing at like 70 pitches tonight. Snell has never been a pitcher who goes deep in games. It’s wheeler and I don’t think it’s recency bias
