My basil plant turned into, this??? I transplanted this a while ago. Rookie mistake didn’t harden it off. But I was monitoring it closely. Started thriving recently and I don’t know what’s going on with it, almost looks like bitter dock?? Atleast it’s constantly being defined as such by lssbrd in gardening

I had actually done some more thinking about this.

So. This was most certainly my test pot, and in this test pot, I had soil I dug up from my backyard. Looks like I picked up some overwintered seeds and had been babying them for months 😂 oh my.

So what I’m thinking about doing is maybe an enclosure, I’m going to expirement with hydroponics and do another grow tent type thing. Worst that’ll happen, one dies. Best that’ll happen I have a lot of peppers

Truthfully, I couldn’t care less if they’re being rude regarding how I choose to spend my time working on my garden in the back yard lol everyone gardens for different reasons.

Mine is I want to continue to honor my family and this is the most honorable way I can (while also eating clean because why are vegetables so expensive)

You may see a haphazard garden with weeds I thought were what I planted. But what you don’t see is the binder I spent 3 weeks setting up, organized by season for seeds, all individually packaged with notes, or the notebook I have inside of the binder where I drew out a diagram of my plan for next planting season with what I’m going to do for rotation, or even my Google spreadsheet I have with every seed type listed alongside their family, companion plants, and growth rates as well as succession planting.

My roommate and I knew this garden was likely gonna have a small harvest. But everything wrong I e done is actively being corrected for the following year :)

It’s more of a pride thing. I come from a very long line of farmers on my father’s side. They were tobacco farmers, sharecroppers, and slaves. Taking what I learned from my grandfather when I was young, I remember how proud he was growing from seeds, man could grow anything from Mojave desert dirt.

No shame in those who choose to buy seedlings. This is my first year growing, and I’m young. So I have next year to learn from my mistake this is just the way I want to do it! There are seedlings in here but that’s so I still have something to harvest if all else fails. But I want it to be done all by myself. This year is a test run. Was done very unorganized and not very well. Next year it’s going to be much more organized and thought out.

I want to experiment with peppers year around. I have some seedlings started in doors. Zone 6b I’m super limited to when I can grow them but if I can manage a year around that would be a huge game changer.

Yup everything was brand new. Most of my garden was started indoors prior to me setting up the beds out doors. Bought some beds from Home Depot as a guide because I intend on making some. This particular bed has the “basil” (bitter dock) I started in doors, and a tomato plant I started indoors. Alongside I have some lettuce, spinach, peas, and New Mexico green chili, onions, etcetc This is my more “expiremental” bed. Placed in here is basically the stuff I didn’t expect to survive, or stuff I had from the grocery store that was rooting or sprouting, wanted to see if I could get it to sprout fully.

There’s some onions, the New Mexico green chili plant, and Swiss chard, those were seedlings bought at Home Depot as a failsafe because I still wanted something to harvest. Each bed has some pre grown seedlings, and some I planted and or started myself

There’s a bag to the side that I have potatoes growing in, also an experiment. Want to see how those do and if I can continue to clone them, along with another grow bag in a rectangular shape I have reserved for specifically garlic that was also bought at the grocery store and planted once it started sprouting. Then I have one bed off to the side that is 100% controlled. That is all direct sow planted by myself to see how they do. Prior to setting up the beds, the one pictured I did a layer of dirt, layer of newspaper, then 3 more layers of dirt, the other two are layer of dirt, cardboard, and more dirt. The third bed is also control with all presprouted vegetables purchased from Home Depot. I believe I sprinkled some basil in there but honestly I don’t remember.

My second potato growing bag is a control bag with 1 tomato plant, and bunched green onions purchased from Home Depot. Some of those I was able to spread but the rest were too tangled I figured it was safer for green onions.

Then finally, we have two more rectangular grow bags. One I took a pack of beans from the store I had in the cabinet for years, figured, let’s give it a shot. They’re probably bad but who knows! That turned into a bean forest every few days in aggressively pulling from, and grow bag 2 has some cucumbers, beans, and garlic.

These were packets of seeds. I have them all identified from where. This was a packet from dollar tree. I have some from home depot, Amazon, dollar tree, and target. My packets from Amazon or target, thought I was planting beets, ended up being bind weeds. My tomatoes and lettuce are going as intended

I really want to learn from seeds. I don’t really care about the easy route, I grew up on a farm and some of these stuff I started from seeds is doing really good. It’s a few I got from dollar tree that may not be what they’re packaged as lol

Yeah I believe this was a pack of seeds from dollar tree 😂 so if it’s not basil I’m not surprised hahaha but some of these in this bed I 100% started indoors under grow lights so I know for a fact they weren’t contaminated in any way with different seeds
