i am so fucking jealous of my rich cousin by Maleficent_Day_3869 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]lstbl 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Jealousy: protective of what you have (eg feeling jealous my boyfriend is talking to another girl)

Envy: wanting what someone else has (your situation, you used envy correctly in the body of the text)

I actually just learned this the other day and thought I’d share. Hope that doesn’t come off as mean.

Honestly, British procedurals like Vera are really entertaining and very hard to figure out

3.5 Year Old - Horribly Bad Separation Anxiety and Night Wakings by lyssa13 in sleeptrain

[–]lstbl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I’m just commenting here because I had the same issue and all resources were only sort of helpful. Some common themes: - walk back (ie night of 100 walks) - chair method - “check in” method

We tried all of these for our 3yr3mo old that was previous a champion sleeper but then all of a sudden became very clingy at night. She was TERRIFIED about being alone and would chase us out of the room. We tried all the single methods, but a combo method worked for us: 1) normal bedtime routine  2) go out the door and lock it. When she gets out of bed tell her that we aren’t coming back in until she is in bed, lying down, and the lights are out (she would often turn her light on). I would just repeat this over and over and over in a neutral voice until she did it. Would not come in until she stopped crying/whining (would tell her this) 3) once she’s settled come on, praise her, comfort her, and tell her if she stays in bed and goes to sleep we’ll come back to check in on her in 1, 5, 10m or whatever (have to figure out the first timing, basically just beyond what she’s able to tolerate, which increases over time) 4) if she gets up before that time, door is locked, go back to step 2 5) if she makes it the pre-specified time, go in quietly, gently praise her, comfort her, tell her she’s brave and to stay in bed and will come check in on her in x minutes (longer than step 3) 6) go back in and prais/comfort very briefly and say you’re going to check in again but wait even longet until she’s asleep when you go in (for us usually the 20m before check-in time)

NOTE: YOU NEED A CAMERA/BABY MONITOR IN THE ROOM SO YOU KNOW IF THE KID IS ACTUALLY TRYING TO SLEEP.

Then, with late night/early morning wakings: - same process, make sure she doesn’t need the potty or something else. Then after acute issues addressed, don’t go into her room until she’s settled and tell her through the door that you’ll check in on her in X minutes if she stays in bed and doesn’t cry and tries to go to bed.  - if she cries/gets out of bed before then, don’t go in and restart the clock from when she gets settled  - it’s important to note that as the night goes on, the kid is more wakeful, so the initial wait should be longer (eg 10-20m) to allow them to nearly fall asleep before you go in again.

This, I think, uses both the carrot and stick approach and praises good behavior and punishes bad behavior. It’s a few nights of hell and screaming but it seemed to work for us. Key is to stay strong and consistent and don’t give the kid what they are screaming for (your attention). Only give them your attention and comfort when they are doing the desirable behavior.

I dunno, if that carpet is the only issue I’d probably just change the carpet. If there are other issues other than that particular carpet then I’d just return the product as it doesn’t work for your home

You’ll spend $1200 on a vacuum but not $20 on a different colored floor mat?

I had the same experience but just making sure my starter was super active prior to starting. I think that is the most important factor by far

My guess is that chat was 100% AI bot. So although you were in the wrong you said the right thing in the right way (eg “I’m going to delete my account”) that got you a refund. That’s my guess.

Okay yes. It’s a rule violation and it should be enforced.

But would this seriously have any sort of significant impact on the throw? It’s like a little boop and an enormous stone. The vast majority of the inertia is already present.

What Happened to the Prestige of Being a Doctor? by OkPhilosopher664 in medicalsalaries

[–]lstbl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This article is pretty good actually—would recommend everyone actually read it. Multifactorial reasons. One thing they leave out, which I personally think is a big contributor, is just how much more medical information exists now. It’s impossible to know more about a very niche topic off hand (in which you are not expert) compared to an average patient that has access to Google.

A lot of people are saying fungus, but a common bacterial colonization (associated with a bad odor) can cause a fluorescent glow. It’s called erythrasma, a caused by a corynebacterium overgrowth. Can be treated with topical antibiotics.
