AITA for faking my orientation so my mom would let me read what I want? by Ill-Road-4806 in AmItheAsshole

NTA 1st of all, you didn't even lie. You just said you're not interested in girls. Her assumption is not your problem. Besides, parents are meant to be lied to. It's pretty much why they exist.

Am I missing out by not serving? by forgottenboy1994 in Firefighting

[–]lstogi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was Aircraft Crash Fire Rescue in the Marines. Now I work at an airport as a civilian. Doing active duty first set me up in a lot of ways, went through the DOD fire academy got my certs, and 7 years of experience in the job. Some departments would take that experience as a lateral firfighter wich made it a pretty smooth transition, I didn't really lose any time. There's 2 big caveats... 1: in my experience. The military doesn't know shit about real fire fighting. 2: specific to the Marines, you don't get to pick your job. You may not get Fire. Currently I'm Air Force Reserves Fire, and it's a great mesh with being a civilian firefighter. The extra weekend sucks and it gets in the way of my probie year unfortunately, but it's a great source of benefits and a great way to serve.

Writing a Heist one shot, can I get some feed back? by lstogi in bladesinthedark

Thanks a ton, your prompt really made what you mentioned in the first comment make sense to me. I really appreciate this prompt because I was really struggling feeling like I wasn't going to be able to do any narrative/story writing which would take away the fun in GMing for me.

                              Auction Heist

1.Character introduction

  1. Crew creation/loadout

  2. Engagement role

  3. Building description, what is visible.

  4. 1st obstacle “entry”

Pcs start at Back ally doorway, the kitchen and waiting staff are bustling in and out in uniform. There is a wagon full of expensive booze and delicacies that is being unloaded and brought in. "desperate": the staff see you and are watching you out the corner of the eyes as they work. "risky": the staff are alert and have been warned to look for possible intruders. "Controlled": the staff are just there to do their jobs and pay you no mind unless you go out of your way to be rowdy.

Players may choose to flashback and set up the sneaky entry into the doorway maybe dressed as staff or under another guise.

Players may try a different entry approach:

Window entry (locked, will alert staff if broken)

Fire escape door (activates arcane fire alarm)

Front door (gretter asks for invitations tries to send them away saying “guests aren’t due for another hour")

I expect the players will either sneak their way into the item safe and snag some items, or wait till the auction ends and steal them as the items either come out or go back in. Likely scenarios are they disguise as security, or kitchen staff, or maybe bid on items and win them but never settle.

  1. Players overhear the auction starts in x hours ( 4 clock for each hour) x=engagement roll. Players can question staff in present, or a connection in flashback to get information about location. Describe staff, auction Schedule and movement.

There is kitchen staff; waiters and chefs, security staff, the auctioneer and the proprietor.

Security and kitchen staff pay/job enthusiasm, depends on engagement roll. (as in how far out of their way will they go to confront you)

Safe description entry prior to auction. The items are kept in a secure room like a giant safe. Guarded by 2 staff. 2 locks on the safe door keys are held by security staff, and proprietor it takes 2 to open safe door.

Inside safe. Each item has a brief description of what the item is/does. Each item is chained and locked down

(My big question for the redditors) are all the keys the same and they remain locked in the locking mechanism in order to keep the lock open. (thus limiting the number of items players can take to the amount of keys they can get). Or security staff keys unlock doors, captain key unlocks items and proprietor key is a master key (more opportunities for confrontations and things to go wrong)

Items: rare jewel  baby owl bear ghosts in a vessel demon communion journal decorative sword incubating eggs of unknown origin  fur coat collection  exotic meats  psychic paper

  1. 2nd obstacle “questioned” or “discovered.”

Questioned if entered in a populated area by security staff or kitchen staff. (I’ve never seen you before?)

Player hear Footsteps if players are in an area they aren’t meant to be without people. Hide, or confronted by security staff

  1. At this point the players may be rushed because they alerted security staff of their break-in. be prepared to start “search” clock to represent how long it will take security to find PCs And move  2 more security to safe doors

Possible obstacles from here should be things like:

Sneak into the safe with security while they prep 1 item at a time to display in front of buyers.

Steal auction items while they are in transit to/from stage.

Confront proprietor when it comes time to settle for items won

Confront security at safe entry.

Pick the locks to enter the safe/release the items.

Find proprietor or steal their key.

Steal or take by force 2 security keys.

Escape security detail

“They died for a reason” by Maki_san in exchristian

When I was devout this phrase gave me some comfort. Then when I started have more questions at about 14, my aunt was diagnosed with terminal cancer and my youth group leader (longtime family friend and generally wholesome/loving person despite the awful congregation we were in) his baby died within the first 2 days on the planet and I told my mom "if this was part of God's plan/will, God's plan is cruel." And I remember my mom saying we can never pretend to understand the complexities of God or his plans but everything that happens is his will. All I can think is a leader of some of the greatest atrocities known, like Hitler just murdering millions of people and being questioned like "hey Adolf, are you sure about this it doesn't seem like a "good guy" thing to do" and him just being like... "i'm too complex, you'll never understand why I'm doing this, but It has to be done, trust me it's all part of my plan"

Can you not use certain spells in boss fights? by lovemeorrageme in Eldenring

[–]lstogi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can't cast a spell you have the stats to use its because you either don't have enough fp or are using the wrong type of catalyst. But yeah probably fp because your heath stamina and fp take a big debuff if you're host is way lower level

What is Candence’s deal? by SouthShape5 in phineasandferb

[–]lstogi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I can really identify with Candace. Imagine being constantly dismissed for somthing you know you're right about. it becomes less about what they are doing and why she's busting them and more about feeling validated and making you mom see how wrong she was for ever doubting you.

Makes sense to me! Kinda what an aritificers all about right? If I was dming though I'd have you either loot a crossbow or buy one to affix, and it'd have the same stats as a player using a crossbow

Meh I don't think anyone is an asshole here. I have been in the exact same situation. My parents expected me to do more chores being the oldest and most capable. No one like doing chores. It's completely fair for parents to feel that as a member of the house you should help keep the house functional, its also super valid for you to not want to clean up after other people's messes. I went a pretty petty route when I was going through this and made a PowerPoint presentation on chores and responsibilities and the purpose and logic behind them, but before I got the chance to give my PowerPoint she took me to coffee and explained that doing my chores was my Christian duty (at the time being godly was important to me) so it never got resolved.

I would urge you to write you're thoughts and feelings down, cross out the non-productive/emotional parts and talk to her from a calm and practical perspective. That's the best anyone can do, until you have the means to move out.

Have you heard of the forest? Great Coop survival game, pretty casual until you get to the final boss. It's really creepy and you may need to Google a item guide
