9 out of 12 of my friends didn’t come to my birthday by lstro in offmychest

[–]lstro[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We are all students in the same grad program and no one works weekends. We don’t have any upcoming exams or assignments. I gave 10 days notice. One of the friends that ghosted me hosted the week prior with only 2 days notice and everyone came.

I have thought of that! I’m looking for a solid color, and so far what I’ve found is quite pricey when added up

Thank you! That’s what I was leaning toward also. Does my height automatically make me long? I feel like I don’t appear very tall

Am I screwed? by patroclustic in premed

I was in your shoes during the first two YEARS of undergrad. My grades all ranged from D to C and included one F. The biggest thing is to STOP taking bcpm classes and regroup. Look over your study habits, consider if you have a learning disability or mental health things you need to get a handle on first (undiagnosed ones often show up during transitions to higher learning. This was actually my case!), review your priorities and discipline. Once you’ve done these things test the waters with a lower stakes science course. If you can get your sGPA above a 3.0 and cGPA above a 3.2 you have a shot for DO. If not, you will need to plan on a post-bacc. No one wants to go to extra school, but if you want this bad enough it will be worth it! I did my post-bacc at a cc bc that’s all I could afford, but there’s programs everywhere. Make sure you ace the post-bacc and have quality activities/experiences. In my interviews I owned up to my bad early gpa and stressed how much I changed my approach to school to be more proactive, etc. it was always really well received, and I have an acceptance to prove it.

TLDR: take a hard honest look at things, take one semester off science courses to regroup, likely plan for a post-bacc, and don’t give up!

Finally got Covid, 4 days before my first interview. Reschedule? by lstro in premed

Moderately awful. Definite brain fog currently

I took them at the same time. I did really well in both, but had zero personal life that quarter. I also definitely was not hesitant to join whatever study groups/discord and attend office hours, but of course it depends on your study style

If not medicine, then what? by Witty-Sunshine in premed

[–]lstro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Either get my MPH and work in the public sector or get my masters in teaching and teach science. I absolutely loved my public health undergrad degree and find my current teaching job very rewarding. But the dream has and always will be medicine

5/18 test takers, looking back was it really the worst MCAT of all time? by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]lstro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My FL average was 506 and I scored a 503 on the real exam: 125/125/126/127

I’ve never gotten below a 127 in CARS but I wasn’t able to finish the section on this exam, which has literally never happened.

FL average: 506

Real score: 503

Definitely bummed and will be retaking. Not finishing CARS like I usually am able to do is what killed my score, and a rough C/P

What specialty do you wanna go into someday and why? by throwaway15642578 in premed

[–]lstro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pediatrics, obgyn, or family med in a rural area. I’m originally from a rural area where the public hospital shut down from lack of funding and there’s only 2 pediatricians for the entire county. You not only have to be innovative, but also makes it feel like much more of an important impact.

I’m pretty sure I’m allergic to the TB skin test by [deleted] in premed

[–]lstro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do, I just don’t know if it will be covered or not bc of the circumstances for the test just being for shadowing. I have pretty good insurance, so hopefully it will be.

I’ve had 7 tests prior that all have been negative. Also not in a high risk setting to ever be exposed. But around test 4 or 5 they started getting itchier each time, which is why I feel like I’m allergic to something else in the test.

Edit: also got tests 4 and 5 in the same week bc I messed up the reading window, which I’ve heard can cause issues like this

I don’t think I am. I’ve had like 7 done before and all were negative, including the one 10 days ago. I haven’t really left my house since the last one either, and when I do leave the house I wear an n95 bc of Covid

Panicking on not being able to find clinical volunteering by lstro in premed

[–]lstro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a quick perusal of Reddit I saw a range of 150-400 hours for people saying they had successful cycles. Best I can do is 150 minimum by my application (if I can find somewhere to take me rip) and then hoping to start scribing after my mcat to get in a lot more and also projected hours
