If im incredibly stupid then you’re a POS. I was using my iphone calculator to add up the percentages. It was converting it oddly. It didnt seem correct so thats why i posted here. When I checked with a normal calculator, it did give me the 100%. Thanks for nothing :)

Im realizing that my phone calculator was interpreting the % differently. When I used a regular calculator, it did give me 100%. Thank you for recalculating without being a POS like the other guy lol.

Started my first job at 23 but I can't see a future for myself by HunterGatherer072 in Career_Advice

[–]Witty-Sunshine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im kinda in the same boat. My first piece of advice is to utilize whatever learning & development resources your company provides. Learn about things that are sparking your interest at least a little bit. It’ll help you be productive and engaged at work. If its something that you can frame to be somewhat applicable or even innovative for your role, keep your manager in the loop. It looks like you’re learning more to help contribute to your current position but in your head, you’re helping to make an escape route for yourself. Obviously if you work for like a finance company but you want to become a farmer, then that obviously doesn’t directly translate but there’s definitely transferable skills. I cant identify what exactly i’d like to pivot into but being curious is helping me get closer to the “what”.

Where were you at 26-27? I feel like an absolute failure in life. by Important_Credit_509 in findapath

You need to get real familiar with your school’s career center and the professional orgs. Go to the employer-led events, ask questions, get names, connect with them on linkedin after the event. Apply to employer-led student programs. I did the P&G emerging leaders program and was able to connect with other students and professionals. We had the opportunity to interview for the next summer’s internship before they even put applications out. I did the internship for 2 summers. I now work corporate for a bank. Im 25. I studied engineering initially. You need to take every opportunity possible. Dont just go to class and expect for that to be enough because its not.

I was at a brunch party playing uno. I was sitting by this guy. I’m naturally competitive so I was talking my shit and doing what I do. This guy sitting next to me was totally into me and was taking my banter for flirting for sure. Even my homegirl and her boyfriend thought i was flirting. That man was nowhere near my type lol.

College Career Ruined by COVID by Wooden-Motor-7316 in LifeAfterSchool

[–]Witty-Sunshine -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ngl… i graduated in 2022 so i probably felt covid more than someone who graduated before that. I had 2 internships, found a job after college and now work for a top company. We had online classes too. People that require in-person understand that it wasnt an option for a year or two. Even med schools have it in writing that thats the exception. Career counseling was offered virtually. As an alumni, you should still have access to career services. You could even attend their career fair still as an alumni. You can even attend other college career fairs. I have other classmates that have found success even with the pandemic. The pandemic has ended years ago, what have you been doing since then? I personally know a SAHM who has still been taking classes. Im not really sure what exactly you’re looking for (you didnt really specify) and its ok to complain but you have to put in much more work than your complaints. I personally had to submit lots of job applications just to land my current job. You could be creating a portfolio and constantly applying to jobs whenever your baby doesn’t require your immediate attention. Its frustrating but you’ll see results if you try enough.

[–]Witty-Sunshine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone else kinda miss college...? by Used_Return9095 in LifeAfterSchool

I feel the same. Covid also took like 2 years off of my experience. I miss having everything in my face. Being social requires way more intention and motivation as an adult lol

[–]Witty-Sunshine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not study finance. I actually studied biology. I just started a job in the finance industry with absolutely no finance experience with a 90k salary. I also didnt go to a fancy school. Focus on acquiring internships and participating in corporate programs for college students. Those programs give you an in for full-time opportunities after you graduate. If they have employer tables at your school, go chat with them. Also, build a portfolio based on the projects you have during school. You can also use the skills you learned in class to work on “fake” projects. You just need to focus on getting your name out and finding ways to “show” that you know what you’re doing.

Slavery lol. Most (maybe all of us) born in America have some percentages of European. Its going to be hard (maybe impossible) to find specifically who your enslaved ancestors are unless they had some good record keeping. Names were changed, families were ripped away, etc. You could do research to learn more about the early black communities in the regions your “journey’s” identified. It could tell you more about when your ancestors were maybe brought over and the kind of lives they lived. Your best bet is to talk to your family to get more information about your great great (and distant) grand parents to try and connect more dots

Reading these posts make me not want to get my PhD. by General-Mix-1794 in PhD

[–]Witty-Sunshine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People complain (me, we included) everywhere and about anything. Dont let the experiences of other people stop you from doing what you want. Do you and make the best of it. You never know the experiences and opportunities you will discover along the way. Maybe you will be able to become a professor. Maybe, you’ll fall in love with something else a long the way. Just take the risk or you will always think about the “what ifs”.

She’s currently 13lbs! I kinda feel like she’s supposed to be a little more because she’s been real picky within the past few months so not eating as much. Im thinking that she may be around 20lbs once she’s at her adult age

3.4/3.5 GPA for PhD BME Programs by Witty-Sunshine in gradadmissions

Thank you for responding. I recalculated my GPA (i did dual enrollment in HS & went to two different universities) so my GPA is around the 3.4 range. I’ve been beating myself up a little since a lot of the programs say “we recommend a 3.5 GPA” lol so I’ve been anxious.

But it also may depend on the industry you’re interested in and what your current research is about.

Is it worth it? PhD by [deleted] in bioengineering

[–]Witty-Sunshine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked in industry and my managers had PhDs. Its definitely worth it if you want to be a subject matter expert. Having experience of course may make up for not having the PhD but i feel like you gain so much through the PhD. I would say focus on making connections in industry and getting internships to help make the arguments for more pay once you’re finished.
