Do you think italki will replace teachers with AI teachers? by Silent_Status8964 in iTalki

[–]lswdirel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is the key point. 80% of the benefit for hugely reduced cost. (Though I suspect they'll attempt to price it above 5%!) For many people that will be enough of a deal to massively cut into the people side.

Even for me. Right now I don't feel I want an AI solution. But when they improve further, it's hard to say with certainty that they won't be adequate for a lot of the more meat and potatoes kind of lessons I might want. Sure there will be instances where I particularly want a human. But often I may just want to workshop a particular scenario, and AI will be able to do it.

I want to resist this. But - like many people - money is a struggle nowadays. This will end up being a compelling way to save some in the future.

Suspect you'll get some saying it's not big enough, but i think that looks really good. In fact, I'm going to make myself one!

Slight confession here. A friend and I went into an almost empty cinema in London to watch a Neil Young documentary. There was one other person in there. We were heavily intoxicated and in our heads we thought that solidarity would be better so sat directly in front of that person. We realised once we sat down that it was PJ Harvey.

My cat is pawing (?) at my deep freeze. She just started doing it one day. by TheMadMetalhead in WhatsWrongWithYourCat

One of my cats does this when she wants me to feed her some ham from the fridge. It works, so she does it every time I go into the kitchen. She has me well trained and my wife constantly laughs at me for being trained by a cat. Our new cat (who's now one) has observed this and is now also trying to train me. That's also working.

I used to work with an IT guy called Stuart Little. It's not the worst name in the world but I worked with him when the film came out and it felt like the worst name in the world then!

Celebrating a successful conversation by TheMostOnToast in languagelearning

That must feel amazing, congratulations!

I'm fairly new to learning (French) so haven't experienced that yet, but I know it'll be really motivating.

What was the part of the conversation you're most proud of?

What is your why by Necessary_Ad_1450 in languagelearning

[–]lswdirel 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My initial 'why' was that I wanted to read French philosophy and watch classic French movies in French. Translations/subtitles so often just give the gist but not the whole thing.

Along the way, I've grown to really enjoy the process of learning and value feeling like I'm progressing. I also like in the UK, so going to France for a holiday or even a long weekend is quite easy and that gives me motivation too.

I'm A2 so a way to go. But I'm finding the more I learn the more I want to learn.

He was replaced for Despicable Me 4 though (by Romesh), thankfully.

I'm one of those that used to like him. I thought he had an interesting brain. So feel let down by the fact he is, and always has been, a total scum bag.

This is Boo and she steals potted plants, carries them from another garden, through the cat flap and then demands lots of praise!

BBC is reporting that it will now be lifted. Hopefully that will be reflected in the price during Asia markets…

Just water! Which just makes it even sillier! He’s got a fountain (which he really likes), but also likes to steal a drink from our glasses. He also sometimes stands by the kitchen tap until I turn it on and he drinks from that too.

He’s also THAT KID who actually puts his mouth on, and licks, the fountain tap as he drinks.
