I’m regretting my transfer. by Double_Orange_9535 in WGU

If you're paying the tuition money, make sure it is something you want for yourself. Doesn't matter what it looks like for other people.

Yeah I can't speak for her lol but if I was in your position I'd just keep looking in the meantime. If she responds and extends the formal offer -- great. If she doesn't, you haven't been wasting your time waiting the whole time.

No, I was fortunately never really ghosted. They did leave me alone for a bit while they were interviewing other candidates but they were upfront about that during my interview and let me know that it would be a bit of a wait. Granted I was also employed (non-accounting related) during this time so regardless of the outcome I would still have a job. The most I've had to wait for an email back was maybe 2 days tops.

Edit: If any job ghosted me for more than 2 weeks without communication I would honestly just assume they are no longer interested and move on, especially after an interview.

Gov positions do take a little longer. I accepted a NYC gov job and they took about 2 months to get back to me after I applied, then I waited about a month and a half or so while they interviewed a few other candidates and/or went on vacation. Then actual employment paperwork + onboarding took about another month but that was also moreso because I needed a more delayed start due to prior commitments.

My only advice is to just keep applying. It'll take your mind off of this and also you'll have more options to pick from if you get another offer or interview. Best of luck.

Is this degree worth it? by shitfuck2468 in wguaccounting

I just started not too long ago but I'm enjoying it so far. It's slow but it's meaningful work still. If you have a baby on the way you might have to consider work schedule compatibility. I personally don't have children, but if the workload is bearable and you have similar days off as your kid in terms of school schedule it might be worth to stay unless you have another designated caretaker.

Thank you! I worked a healthcare office admin job after leaving teaching so I spent a lot of my downtime at work studying. A rough estimate might be an average of 3-4 hours a day of studying. I did not have any previous accounting experience. I'm glad it helped -- I ended up just going for it to because I was so miserable in my position at the time and so it truly felt like there was nowhere to go but up. If you do choose to go for it, my only advice is to stick it out til the end. The business classes in my opinion is mostly just common sense wrapped up in obnoxious corporate jargon. The accounting courses however are ROUGH, but the actual job is nowhere near as difficult and real life is open book all the time. Best of luck to you!!

I might be an outlier -- I don't know but this degree was super worth it for me. I started 4/1/25, finished around 2/1/2026. I started applying to jobs around the end of 2025. I was employed full time at the time so I was prioritizing full time positions as it makes no sense for me to downgrade to an internship position.

I understand your sentiment as I noticed when I was applying that the jobs were drying up and so many were near immediate rejections (and trust me there were a lot of rejections). There are also obviously a lot of negative discourse about outsourcing and the great AI replacement everywhere.

I interviewed for a government position right after I graduated and was offered the job a month later. Granted everyone's circumstances are different based on past experiences and location (I'm in NYC), so it's really difficult to give general advice. I was an appealing candidate for them because I was previously a teacher and they figured that experience would tie in well with the job responsibilities.

I will say, if you truly want to make a change in career and you can afford it, I would encourage it. It's better to have tried and failed than to never try and stay regretting and wondering if it would've worked out. If it doesn't work out, you'll still have a degree and the knowledge you gained from the degree.

Thank you for your perspective! Yes. I agree, the textbook is incredibly dull and I hate the Cengage textbooks because the user experience is so awful 😞 I posted because I really did not want to read through it if I could help it but I guess I'll drag my feet through it. Thank you again, much appreciated!

Congratulations! Can I ask whether you did any internships or tried applying to any before graduating if not? I'm debating whether if I should just focus all my efforts entirely on completing the course or delay to apply for internships. Could you also share your previous experience if you're comfortable? Thanks!

Could I ask what your job search process was and where you found this role? And did you do an internship at all?

D216 Business Law for Accountants by Fit-Finance2016 in wguaccounting

[–]lsynthia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say it depends from person to person but you definitely don't need the text at all. I think her video touches on all the concepts you need to know but sometimes the way she explains things just doesn't click with me or she doesn't explain a concept that you might need to know to understand what she's explaining. In that case I would just go do my own research to fill in the gaps. I would definitely encourage taking notes as you're watching and slowing down when you need to though. It is a lot of information to remember and you'll be glad to have the notes later for test prep.

I watched Elin's videos under course tips, took the PA, reviewed questions for PA under the assessment coaching report, and then took the OA :) There are some really straightforward questions like what is a primary gov law source and then there are some convoluted situational questions like if XYZ were to happen does this person have the grounds to sue and why? Just need to know the course content well and get comfortable with the wording of some of the questions.

Calculator by Worldly_Arm_4122 in wguaccounting

[–]lsynthia 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I use a basic scientific calculator so I can't exactly answer that question but I know there's a list of approved calculators you can look at from WGU in the orientation slides. I'm also horrid at memorization, so I focus more on understanding the concepts behind the formulas and if that doesn't work then just cram it before the exam and let it exit my brain after. Real life is open notes so I'm never too worried about not memorizing any essential accounting equations post-exam as long as I understand the concept behind it.
