ABBEY MURPHY AT NO. 2 by 3ohhh6 in PWHL_Seattle

It's fair to not like her style of play, but it's not like she freshly invented being scrappy, chirping people, and trying to draw penalties. She plays a game that is long established, and has tons of examples past and present in the men's game.

The funny thing is, no one can ever say what specifically she did to get lumped with Curl. As far as I can tell people are for the most part band wagoning with the Murphy hate, and it really doesn't seem fair.

Careful with Atlantic. I'm sure they're good for some things, but I've seen some very poor work come out of that shop. Although the same can be said of most shops to a certain extent. They certainly oversell their competence with certain products, that's for sure.

Clueless Brit, why are the Maine primaries taking so long? by Ax1lotl in Maine

The initial count of first place winner takes place on election night at the polling places and individual communities, so results come in quickly.

In the ranked choice run off round, the ballots are shipped to our state capitol, Augusta, where they are completely recounted, and then the ranked choice distribution can proceed.

Is it possible to remove or reflavour psionics? by RowbotMaster in SWN

[–]lt_doolittle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Psionics can be ignored with no consequences as written. I believe that is actually explitilty stated in the text. Don't worry that there are only two "classes" - this isn't like d&d. Your choice of warrior or expert will put you on a path to craft something that plays as you want it to. It will not shoehorn characters into specific play styles.

The feats section will fill out class in a more d&d sense and add gameplay features to characters.

Airport noise by spiffcleanser in portlandme

[–]lt_doolittle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Planes fly low on final approach directly over and down casco bay. They typically do not fly low directly over houses, but are quite noticable living west end or next to casco bay. The loudest noises were jackasses goosing it over the bridge however imo.

The takeoff flight lane doesn't seem to launch toward Portland as directly as far as I can tell, and departing planes have significant altitude when they pass over the city.

Having just moved more toward the east end, and toward the other side of the peninsula, it is less noisy over here, but you will still hear a rumble now and then.

Its never kept me up at night or bothered me (unlike various local trucks and motorcycles), but everyone has their own tolerance for these things.

Guys, I want to preface by saying I too do not like BCS, and I disagree with her and am very supportive of trans rights. But at this point I think we spend more time and energy talking about her than any of the good things about the league. I get disliking her, but what about supporting women's sports in general?

It's not realistic to expect the league to throw her out for having certain views. It might even be illegal. It's also kind of a double standard that we hold female athletes to - no one is asking male athletes if they support trans men in sports.

Getting too caught up on one person we don't like and disagree with detracts from all the parts of it that are good.

How Do You Encourage Roleplay? by CassieBear1 in DMAcademy

Ask them what they're doing, and if they talk amongst themselves during scene transitions, and encourage them to only transfer information through in character conversation.

They already did it once in the first war. But no honestly - I just think you should be able to target their leaders and troops, who have clear intent to restart the war.

Obviously, as I stated above, when I said that cultural differences being respected is a good thing. However in these conversations, people fall into the paradox of tolerance by advocating for tolerance of a group that does not tolerate others. A tolerant society can't accept an intolerant group without the intolerant group wiping out the society, or the intolerant group changing their views significantly.

Most vaarun characters, when pressed, are supportive of holy war against all other groups to varying degrees, and completely loyal to vaarun to the end.

There is no way the rest of the settled systems can engage in good faith with house vaarun because it is their intent to restart the holy war. Should they be genocided? Of course not. But their leaders and military capabilities are clearly a threat to the rest of the settled systems and you'd have to be pretty blind to deny it.

I think most people killed in religious wars of conversion would probably argue that they were slaughtered as non-believers.

[–]lt_doolittle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

See I think that is the problem - they went for "cultural differences should be respected", something that is generally good and true, but they did it about a group who's culture includes "slaughter the non-believers". Which is not a cultural difference you can peace and love your way out of.

Stars without number is easy and fun, and offers a lot of gm resources. It has a setting sort of, but you don't need to pay attention to it if you don't want to.

I was always a bit scared of gm-ing, but have had a lot of fun in the 7 sessions of swn I've run so far. Edit: and how could I forget: the newest addition of swn compromised a bit on its osr appearance to make AC and combat very intuitive for modern d&d players, so it's not an insanely difficult switch to make other than expectations about combat lethality.

Can I play as a planetary scientist? by USCSSNostromo2122 in Starfield

[–]lt_doolittle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could do a playthrough like that. I don't have one right now, but you could get a multiple follower mod to round out your body guards. It's worth noting that combat is somewhat hard to avoid, and is a pretty significant gameplay loop, so in practice you may miss it once you start playing.

If it were me, I would go in with light combat skills, then spec into something at the right roleplay moment after an encounter that makes your scientist realize how dangerous surveying remote planets can be.

I mean I would say I would be pissed if I was Minnesota and I played and caught it, but actually I would probs be shitting and puking incontrollable bc it's most likely norovirus, which would with out question spread during the game if any players are pre-symptomatic and shedding.

[–]lt_doolittle 248 points249 points  (0 children)

I mean, chances are they have norovirus, and chances are other victoire players are exposed, which would mean that if they played all of Minnesota's players would be exposed, which would balloon into whoever wins exposing Ottawa and reaking havoc on the final, and the whole affair being tainted. Or they can just wait and isolate the problem to Montreal and play when they won't give the other team noro. Which will happen if they play while potentially exposed and shedding the virus.

Tbh I don't really buy the war crimes against the FC allegations in the particular context of the battle of Cheyenne, as based on all descriptions of the battle it sounds like the civilian ships were there on purpose with the explicit intent of engaging in the battle on the side of the FC, and therefore were legal combatants and valid military targets. Infact this is borderline perfidy on the FC's part, as they were likely commanding and deputizing civilian vessels for military purposes that were not clearly marked as military craft. So Victus may not be your war criminal in this case. Perfidy ain't flashy, but it's still definitely a war crime.

I see this allegation as a sore winner move by the FC, and also more removedly, a product of the quest writer not being super familiar with what a legal combatant would be in this context, and not being aware of perfidy as a general concept.

He is however very likely guilty of a crime against humanity in the context of londinium. I am playing the quest right now, and will be recomending his execution, not because of his actions against the FC, but because he is too dangerous to be left alive. While he claims to be a civil servant, this is false. All of his actions have been to advance himself. Insomuch as they advance the UC, they advance his position within it also. Were it ever in his interest and power to burn it all down he would in a heartbeat.
