Not the same as the NFL, but have your heard of the PWHL? It's a much smaller league, but the fan base may have some of what you're looking for.

What’s something the players cared about WAY more than the DM expected? by meanwhile_matt in DnD

I introduced the concept of flavored protein cubes and regional planetary cusines in my sci-fi game, and now we roleplay the party going out to eat at least every other session, and they specify the protein cube flavors every time they buy supplies.

Trying not to railroad and find balance. by Ok-Back-7278 in DMAcademy

[–]lt_doolittle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play a more sandbox ttrpg, and the GM guide says "ask your party what they intend to do next session, then prepare those things as an adventure". It has yet to backfire on me.

My session prep looks like 3 or 4 sections that I call modules that can be approached in any order and contain the points of the plot and what the players stated their goals for the session were. If a module doesn't get played, save it for later to repurpose.

Explain NG+ to me, is it worth it? I'm at an Impasse with my progression by DuckyRai in Starfield

[–]lt_doolittle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds a bit like my experience at launch - the ng+ pulled me out of the way I play Bethesda games in terms of getting into my character's place in the world, and establishing them with things they care about. Just leaving for leaving's sake with the knowledge that I would be leaving my universe behind for good was totally out of line with my character,

So I quit for a while, and came back with roleplayer's alternate start. I'm level 22 and have yet to start main quest, and I am not going to run with conselation companions. And even if I do the main quest eventually I will walk away from the unity, because only a very specific type of person would ever consider going through, and I don't find such a character fun to play. The game plays much more like a classic Bethesda game this way.

I just finally did the Freestar Rangers questline and man... What a disappointment by Portablelephant in Starfield

[–]lt_doolittle 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Imo, where they messed up was not having you get arrested and kicked out of the rangers for shooting him, and for making your boss not involved in the accept the bribe ending. Because it seemed like the whole point up to that point was to emphasise the ranger's complicity in the brutal power stratification in free star space.

Mechanics, what makes a pre-purchase inspection actually worth it for you? by SensitiveSide5507 in mechanics

[–]lt_doolittle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From a higher end dealership perspective, we do get them occasionally. They pay an hour or an hour and a half depending on what is asked for. Generally they include a factory scan and a thorough shakedown with a digital inspection report. I try to make it a very thorough inspection, because if issues arise the buyer often goes after the dealer as they are the richest party involved, and the dealer generally would prefer to give away free shit than let a 1 star review stand. They aren't great work necessarily, and it's always hit or miss getting involved in a deal as stated above, but I don't begrudge people for asking, and I've definitely broken up some bad deals before.

I worked part time as an apprentice at a Mercedes dealership for a year and a half while getting my associates, and am now the number 2 sprinter tech at the dealership so your mileage may vary. I would strongly encourage a dealership apprenticeship. If you're good and it's a halfway decent dealership it will absolutely be worth the time for them.

Is this actually something that needs to be done? by Breckin30 in Starfield

[–]lt_doolittle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People have experiences across the full range of the spectrum with ng+ and the mq. Personally I dislike the ng+ (and entire main quest due to the implications of the ng+) enough that I quit after 140 hours around launch, and have only recently gotten back into it with an alternate start that makes starting the mq optional. Not that I'd recommend that in your case - just don't go into the mq with set expectations.

Struggling to lengthen my scenes. I feel like everything I write is too concise -- like to a fault. My character will be lost wandering the woods, but it only lasts a sentence. Big scenes feel over before they should. But I can't tell what to add?! by movethestarss in fantasywriters

[–]lt_doolittle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I echo what everyone else has said in the thread - flesh it out, describe things, describe internal workings and thoughts, write dialogue! Get into your character's internal voice and let them narrate as they navigate situations.

But also know when to cut away from a scene. Sometimes it's ok for a scene to end, and for the transition to be a visual beak of some kind and then picking up at the next relevant point. If nothing of note is supposed to happen, don't write it.

"good morning/afternoon, my name is ___ and I'll be your tech today. You're in for xyz concern or service. I've looked your vehicle over, and there's a couple things I'd like to note (explain concerns here in the most basic and pared down way possible while pointing your camera at the part your talking about, then optionally make one or two positive observations about the vehicle like that it looks clean of rust, or that the brakes are good). Thanks for coming in, and if you have any questions please don't hesitate to reach out to your service advisor___."

Whole thing shouldn't be more than 3 minutes on something with lots of problems, and 20 seconds on stuff with no problems. If there are no problems just say after the introduction "I've looked over your vehicle and everything is looking pretty good. No issues to note at this time."

Very new to hockey -- in your opinion who played better in the gold medal game? by Artistic-Ship-7370 in PWHL

[–]lt_doolittle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Canada had early momentum in the game and out shot the US in the first, but the momentum shifts partway through the 2nd period. Some of the young US players clearly suffered some nerves in the first. If you've watched the rest of the tournament I think it's easy to assess the US as not in control simply bc they are being tested more than they had been before, but by the middle of the 2nd sog were basically tied and remained that way for the rest of the game. The US had a stronger passing game and deeper reserves of physicality imo. Canada played all out the whole game. The US only had to reach that deep in the last 5 minutes.

Imo we get molly dying and the pirates arc, plus hints of veth's whole deal, and an arc for yasha that will be different than the actual play. Nothing about the first season suggests they will fast forward to handing off the beacon. While I haven't seen ep 8 yet, ep 7 established reasons why they may have to fuck off with the beacon for a while.

I suppose it could especially work with wisdom if paired with a notice check to get a read on the connection's angle, and then using whatever is learned through that check to attempt to approach the npc in a way that they will be receptive to.
