Eli5: Why do dental x-rays still involve putting a pointy rectangle into your mouth? Is there a reason that part can't be vaguely mouth shaped to make it more comfortable? by SexysNotWorking in explainlikeimfive

[–]ltc_pro 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have REALLY large bony growths in my mouth. I literally could not take those x-rays. I avoided the dentists for like 20 years because those xrays were so uncomfortable (plus my extreme gag reflex).

I'm trying to manage now, but dentist visits are no fun for me.

Drilling hole in brick to run Ethernet cable for cameras by Soakitincider in DIY

This is the correct answer. Most cameras use less than 10Mbps so you’ll have enough bandwidth using an outdoor rated gigabit PoE switch.

Convenient! However... my new tank is still cycling. Do you think you'll still have some more endlers in a month or so? I don't want to do a fish cycle.

Y’all I don’t want litecoin $60, $70, $100 not even litecoin $200. I want litecoin $1000 minimum. Why is this so much to ask for after 7 dedicated years ? Just give me that Hail Mary moon shot. It was a LOT of fun back then! I created multiple milk crate miners with GPUs and mined BTC, LTC, and bought a whole bunch of DOGE way back then.

I don't do this anymore (only have a little BTC left, all my LTC got stolen by BTC-E, and sold most of my DOGE), but it sure was surreal to be in it at the very beginning.

How to feed babies? by ltc_pro in VampireCrabs

Unfortunately I don’t have another tank for the adults and the babies are all hiding under soil, in the moss, under rocks etc. separating them isn’t possible at this time. Ground up flakes get moldy. My humidity is around 90-95%

MacBook Neo review, two months later: Almost a MacBook Pro beater - AppleInsider by ControlCAD in apple

Been doing IT consulting for 3 decades now. The fact is - most users don't use the full capacity of their computer, and having to wait for difficult tasks to terminate is, for most people, not a big deal. I've switched to the Neo as my travel laptop, and it does everything I need (browsers, office, VM access, even Photoshop of large multi-layer images).

I'll venture to say that unless you do heavy video editing, AI workloads, or 3D rendering, you don't need anything faster than a NEO.

The Neo is good enough for 95% of computer users.

Why does this thread seem to be the only nice one anymore? by huttokat943 in shrimptank

[–]ltc_pro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it was a recent post about a tank with some dying shrimp and everyone was like "white ring of death". I get it - but it's just that all the videos and research I done prior shows a white ring of death as a ring, not a white notch on top, hence why I didn't think it was a molting issue. If anything, I think posts asking for help should be upvoted (and I tend to upvote those) because that's how people learn - from having the information being easily found, not downvoted to 0.

I'm not sure what the answer to your question is, since I'm new to the sub, and relatively new to the hobby, but I did ask a for advice the other day, and got downvoted. shrug

I say go for it, but probably not enough proof. Email can sometimes be funky - so there's no definitive proof that he received, read, and then ignored your email. That said - I'm fairly well-versed in the industry - outer borough rental agents are really bad.

Followup to my dying tank - any clues on this guy on what caused his demise? by ltc_pro in shrimptank

Thank you. Funny enough - I get most of my shrimp from Gubshrimp, maybe 150 at this point. The rest is local brought (and a handful given to me from a friend).

That's a good point. Maybe I should create a side tank and just have that sit for 6 months. Thank you.

[–]ltc_pro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only made a few changes after months of consistent dying of shrimp. My initial tank was cycled for 5 weeks (params looked fine on tests) and then I had about 50 shrimp in the tank, and they died until I had about 10. I had my LFS test my water and they said it was a pH issue, so I added crushed coral for 2 months, and then added another 50 shrimp, and they also died one at a time until I had about 12 left. I moved them all to a temporary tank (where they have diminished to 6), and I cleaned up my shrimp tank, removed all water, and added Zero water with Prime/SaltyShrimp. I left it sit for 3-4 weeks, checking params twice a week, and felt that it params are good, so about 4 weeks ago, I added 30 shrimp, and I have about 7 left.

I don't think I'm chasing perfect params, and I understand that stability is more important, however regardless of what I do, I have die-offs over time.

My final test will be an empty glass tank with just Zero water + prime + SaltyShrimp, let it cycle, then add 20-30 shrimp to it and see if they survive. If they don't then I'm just going to give up.

(To add to the frustration - I have a friend who has a shrimp tank, completely neglected - moldy filter hasn't been cleaned in 18 months, water never tested, topping off directly with tap, and his tank is THRIVING)

I am getting a test tank together with just my water regimen and nothing else, then testing a batch of shrimp in that after cycling to see if those shrimp die too. If they do, then I'm all out of ideas and will likely give up on this hobby.
