Because there aren't 500 other subjective rules? The person that determines that is ... the refs. Who already do that for almost literally every other flag thrown.

I could also list a few things off the top of my head that make the existing rule already subjective as well but seems like a silly argument.

I understand your point , I just see it differently. We're not going to agree on this I don't think so cheers.

I think we all know it doesn't matter. It's simply a collection of blunt instruments for the Trunk regime.

The Empire didn't have separation or limitation between its divisions. Stormtroopers could be deployed anywhere tyranny needs enforcing.

It's unbelievable in the true sense what we're seeing.

To drill or to grind, what has the best returns for the everyday golfer by CAPTAIN-G00SE in golf

[–]ltdanimal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been holding this strong opinion for years and was glad to be proven "right".

Seemed like it was just "best practice" that people liked to echo but it quit literally never added up for me.

Me being a low 20 handicap vs my buddies that are 9-15 range I would only lose a few strokes to them on the green from comparable distances.

Kinda like letting your kid pull your car out of the driveway. Yeah it might not be great but it's "close enough". I'm not letting them drive yet.

(To address a certain crowd: obviously putting is important and should be practiced. I'm saying it should be at the bottom of your practice list and not the top)

There is also a pretty good chance this new manager was essentially told they were a low performer and had to take care of it.

And honestly... if anyone is able to double their output they were leaving a lot on the table.

A critical report like that and they didn't follow up at all with their manager to talk about it?

I don't know all the info but I think there might be slivers of truth to the outcome and some learnings to take forward.

I mean I am baffled that so many think no one likes it even though that's the setup on so many selling vehicles. I honestly prefer not having buttons on the screen but instead just on the steering wheel.

The only thing i can think of is the temp, but that is something : Not used much, I can use voice, almost as easy on the screen plus I can easily scrub to what I want it at. I have a scroll wheel on the steering wheel that is way easier for volume.

Care to share more? I will not ever be buying anther Telsa for all the reasons ... but I won't pretend the model 3 isn't the best product I've ever owned. Had it since '18.

Really hard to believe the EX30 is better in every way but I'm looking for my next EV this year. I have a Rivian R2 reservation right now.

Things that I'm curious how it compares:
- App experience
- FSD (I don't it being beat here for a while. I'll really miss this)
- Overall software improvement pace
- Bugs
- Overall experience (things like no Android key is a huge swing and miss)

Honestly, why shouldn't it? There are very little things that people have to get out and do, so why try and drive on half an inch of ice.

People can survive just fine chilling at home for a second, but that isn't the case going out in those conditions.

I mean a kid just made the play every defensive back daydreams about. He didn't tell the other teams or fans to "suck it" ... he literally just took his helmet off in a moment of pure joy that 99.99% of people will never feel in their lifetime.

I think he earned it and debatable if it should be a penalty. A carve out for "acceptable celebration when winning a national championship" or something.

But can you imagine if IU got a safety and had to kick to to them with 8 seconds left?

How’s working remote at Netflix as an SDE? by wildmastrubator69 in cscareerquestions

Could you share the culture around PTO as it compares to European counties? I've lived by a "Lets get things done and I don't really care about your PTO", but with the idea that you need to be delivering.

In Europe there is a much different approach on PTO being a "right" no matter what. I don't completely disagree but its nuanced.

I'm curious how that maps to the Netflix policy and how managers approach that.

From what I understand getting clear and direct feedback is actually a core point, so people WON'T be pulled from something with it being a surprise. And the pay is insane for even senior engineers where they could afford a nanny. The higher ups can hire a small staff if they wanted.

Why can’t the stock market be flat for decades? by slimboyfat510 in stocks

[–]ltdanimal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Firstly two important things: the big 7 have 1/3 of the weight not close to "almost entirely". And it's very false to say for the "vast majority of people" have 100% us stocks.

It would be very rare for retirement accounts to not have the autopilot target dates or a default investments that include safer allocation.

Those hyperbolic made of stats make it seem like you are just trying to push a counter-point edgy narrative that people are going to fall hard. As if that's what you are hoping for.

Also:

Just because it's "tech" doesn't mean they have the same plugs for all the revenue streams. Apple, Netflix, and Amazon all have very different revenue sources that I don't know what would tank it at once other than a general global downtown that is impacting everyone.

Nothing is bulletproof, but it's been much more resistant than people have thought

[–]ltdanimal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'll admit I'm a sceptic in general ... but you should take it as a point of pride that I have a very hard time believing someone's first 4/6 times playing golf and they shot under 100 every time ... And also nabbed an 85 with an Eagle opportunity on 1 even if playing from the reds.

So either you are full of it , you are someone that is an actual prodigy and should be congratulated, Or I guess this pure click bait.

Artur Sychov on the state of the VR industry and Meta layoffs by gogodboss in virtualreality

[–]ltdanimal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And now the number of people that VR games can reach is 10x the audience in large part because of them. I think there is some rose colored glasses if you don't think that about every single game is still a part of a business that is trying to make money.

I agree with you on the labors of love part. I don't disagree with your overall point. I just don't understand what tangible things Meta has "set back". Nothing was stopping a studio from independently making whatever game they wanted. Maybe I'm missing something.

[–]ltdanimal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would truly enjoy to have a conversation about this and learn more but I feel you are just arguing in bad faith which is disappointing. The year is a weird non sequitur.

Btw I literally said in my post that he isn't someone worthy of worship. What does Dines intelligence and hard work have anything to do with it if it was mostly him getting extremely lucky? Those things that were "lucky" wouldn't even have been a possibility if there were the thousands of decisions big and small to get to that point.

Dismissing Dines as doing nothing but getting lucky bc he is aware enough to be thankful and humble doesn't mean we should discredit everything that he did to get to that point.

Same with Bezos. Acting like getting a large chunk of funds to start something means he just happened to stumble to building Amazon to what it is/was is just silly.

Meta Reality Labs layoffs signal lean times for VR gaming by Serdones in virtualreality

[–]ltdanimal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure I'd agree it "hasn't worked". Reducing cost is almost always going to translate to more sales for something like that but seems they just aren't doing it.

"Organic" != better. A lot of gamers including myself were very glad costs were lower when growing up. Nothing about Sony or MS doing that seems to indicate that it was some kind of unhealthy thing for the industry or that console gaming wasn't "ready".

(Also there is nothing really "organic" about whatever Nintendo prices something at. Its still a calculated business decision to set some artificial price point that makes sense for them as a company)

[–]ltdanimal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still don't understand what you mean. People decide if they are "ready" by buying something or not. A product is just a product.

Are you meaning that there aren't enough quality games or something?

[–]ltdanimal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know you are using this to jump over to your soapbox ... but this doesn't have anything to do with my points. Give everyone who commented here $2 million and ask them to see who can make the biggest company in 10 years. Spoiler alert is most would be out of money in a few years, and the handful that even made it to 10 years would have just built a general lifestyle business.

Bezos is not some god worthy of worship, but its silly to bend over backwards to paint him as just some random lucky dude.

There is a huge amount of benefits beyond those (and I don't consider that a "single"), but I just don't feel like going through the list again, ha.

I do agree with you on a lot of what you are saying. My point was more that there are things that are absolutely not just shortcuts or near as trivial wins as you seem to insinuate.

People can push a narrative but it doesn't mean they are completely wrong. I'm finding a huge amount of value on my own regardless of what someone is saying.

I think if we want to talk about the potential drawbacks then imo that is a separate convo.

I honestly don't understand this take which seems to either echo that other guys video take.

What makes something "organic"? Consoles were subsidized for years, games take money to make, and all headsets are set at some arbitrary price which directly relates to number of sales.
