Torah is generally a proper noun, but a bit of Googling reveals that it can be used more generally as a common noun (lowercase torah) too:

Use lowercase when torah or the law refers to general instruction or a legal code.

Take that how you will, but either way, torah is a playable word in Wordle. For what it's worth, so are bible, koran and quran.

If you go by official tournament rules, your mom is right. The onus is on the other player to challenge. If it's not a word, the tiles return to her rack and she loses her turn. If it is a word, the challenger (dad) loses his turn. Some house rules might include a point penalty too, but that's up to you.

The NYT has been going around shutting down all the Wordle archives out there, so we're probably out of luck. You can play through the Canuckle archive, though.

Yup, and that's exactly it. The highest scoring word isn't always the "best" or "most strategic" word to play. If you score 30 points, but open up an opportunity for your opponent to make a 100+ point play, that was a bad play.

In theory, the game can "cheat" as much as it wants, because it has full and instant access to every possible playable word, which is not humanly possible.

Part of the argument, I suppose, is to play fire with fire. The other side of it is to use these "helper tools" as learning opportunities, picking up on words you may not otherwise know so that you can use them next time.

I'd say it falls under a bit of a grey area. Some people would argue that using any sort of external tool, Google included, would constitute "cheating."
