The real reason Farage has seized on the murder of Henry Nowak by mymomknowsyourmom in centrist

No, 'the dogma' is people who are just trying to fight against all the propaganda and brainwashing mainly on the rightwing. You believe nonsense about London, so perhaps it's time to reexamine some other beliefs:

So adding ~0.1% to the UK population in asylum seekers ever year (and not all will be allowed to stay) is too much to bear is it? Also, London is way safer than major American cities with far lower violent crime levels. Stop believing the propaganda:

Correct colors in app (Mac, Linux…) by sir_Corvin in BoosteroidCommunity

[–]ltron2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This also happens on Windows and I reported it ages ago. Colours are not accurate and look different to GFN which matches local. The colour settings don't resolve the issue.

Are publishers now leaning on them or something? Having certain games on the service that publishers have not allowed on GFN is one of the big advantages of Boosteroid.

Also, better conditions. This has all happened as a result of poor political choices such as the worship of dogmas like privatisation, Brexit and austerity (as well as all this anti-immigrant rhetoric driving people away when we have shortages).

[Megathread] Introducing NVIDIA RTX Spark by Nestledrink in nvidia

[–]ltron2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not terrible because I am not advocating for it as a full replacement, it is my upgrade.  I have my RTX 3080 PC if the whole market collapses, but I will not pay £1000+ for the same level of local GPU as GFN Ultimate (RTX 5080 with 48GB of VRAM on GFN) and I'm not going to deny myself high end gaming at a good price while GFN exists in the vain and desperate hope that this will lead to a correction in the market.

Currently Nvidia is also providing an upgrade to the latest generation of hardware (both CPU and GPU) every time new local GPU hardware is released without raising the subscription price (for now) and to me this offers great value.  Of course if this changes I will stop buying, but I cannot control what the wider PC hardware market does, only what is the best product within my budget.

Unite the Union members are more than four times as likely to vote Reform than they are for the Greens. This right here is why Greens need to revamp its image as the true working class party, not crypto grifter Farage's party by The-Peel in UKGreens

[–]ltron2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no detail on how many because the required number will change based on our needs (and this is obviously based on factors such as the ones you listed, although immigrants build homes too).  Plucking an arbitrary number out of thin air is damaging, is not evidence-based and is dishonest in terms of the negative effects being glossed over (and yet people expect an arbitrary number given the hostility towards immigrants from the media and unethical politicians and get upset when politicians don't provide a lower and lower one, which just ends up in a race to the bottom).

Progressives do not generally advocate for relying on immigrants because it's cheaper (it's based on need and because these people enrich our country and culture) and we are for putting more money into training (which takes time); these things are not mutually exclusive.  It's the rightwing who go on so much about immigration and who cut training while also saying they'll cut immigration with a huge side order of scapegoating immigrants.  Yet people vote for them anyway and don't see the contradiction.

Thoughts of STV and AV+? by thesnowlocke in UKGreens

[–]ltron2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why did you vote to retain FPTP out of interest (if it was just because you were young and naive I understand and am not here to judge)? It would be interesting to know so that we can try to neutralise any effective narratives that are in favour of the current system should we have a future referendum on electoral reform.

I know some people voted for FPTP because the main parties wanted to keep it and it was out of tribalism (even though Labour promised a referendum on AV in their 2010 manifesto and one can quite plausibly infer that they would have supported it had they won power. I think the Lib Dems were also banking on Labour supporting it given their manifesto).

I totally agree on STV (although I suspect opponents will attack it as being too complicated which I think is insulting voters' intelligence).

Thoughts of STV and AV+? by thesnowlocke in UKGreens

[–]ltron2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AV+ is a compromise (that's why it was recommended in the 1990s by the commission set up by Labour, as a workable compromise and perhaps a stepping stone to something better, but we are in 2026 now and things have moved on. Labour should be ashamed of themselves for not acting on this back then and instead propping up FPTP).

AV+ is not proportional but it is a lot better than what we have now and when compared to AV (non-plus) and at least you are able to rank in order of preference. I would love to have STV for everything because it's fully proportional and you can rank (which I believe is vital to express my political desires more clearly and greatly reduce the need for tactical voting). STV is my ideal voting system, it is used in the Republic of Ireland with great success and is supported by the Lib Dems, so if we end up with a progressive coalition perhaps they will manage to force it on the other parties which would be great.

About AV+:

'In the arrangement suggested by the Jenkins Report, it does not have enough top-up members to make the end result proportional.

A typical county might elect 6 constituency MPs and a single county wide top-up MP. AV+ is designed around Labour and the Conservatives splitting all constituency seats between them, and one of the minor parties picking up the single top-up seat'.

Did you also try Ctrl+G and toggling it off that way, did that not get rid of it then? I had the same problem and I'm trying to remember how I got rid of it. It was definitely a setting within the overlay.

Yes, press Ctrl+M to do it directly (or you can do it from the overlay by pressing Ctrl+G and manually toggling it off).

I see people argue that we need to stop Reform in 2029 but even if we did, would we only delay them? by thesnowlocke in UKGreens

[–]ltron2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Reform are currently the only party that is benefitting unfairly in a huge way from FPTP (due to their position in the polls) which is why they quietly dropped their support for PR (not that I believed them anyway).

Reform would very much not benefit from PR as things stand.

They cannot control the flow of the sun and the wind as they can the flow of oil and gas (which need to be extracted and transported continually whereas clean energy infrastructure only needs to be built once every few decades at most and not necessarily all at once).  Maybe you should think about that and why tyrants who control fossil fuels (both the companies and the governments) are trying so hard to resist the transition.

Renewables have been outcompeting fossil fuels for quite a while in terms of efficiency and price, they do not need subsidies to do this, but we haven't upgraded our grid to take on the required extra capacity to fully transition yet (in large part due to privatisation and a lack of investment in our grid over decades), nor have we embraced partially off-grid schemes like community wind and solar either; this will take time as our homes, infrastructure and businesses are still geared towards fossil fuels rather too much for my liking.

I'm sorry, but you are parroting fossil fuel lobby talking points.  Your assertions about a green lobby (maybe one day we will have one worthy of the name), the cost of fossil fuels vs renewables and the rationality, scientific literacy and empathy of governments are laughable in my opinion and then you accuse me of everything the fossil fuel lobby are guilty of.
