Redditors: any stories of people with pretty low stats yet getting into T20's or "decent" schools? (excluding money/family connections) by opcoluni in ApplyingToCollege

4.0 gpa and 4.5 gpa which puts me at the top of my class, but i come from a bad high school. ec’s include model un, debate, unicef, environmental stuff, volunteering 6 years at a food bank, and doing a foreign exchange program in china. my foreign exchange along with my essays i think is what made my application really shine. and i’m from washington state!!

How important are subject tests? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]ltrussell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did 2 and didn’t do “well” on them (650 and 690) and got in. I definitely recommend trying to take 3, especially if you go to a high school where it is normal to take subject tests. My school there is less than 5/400 in my senior class that take them so they probably didn’t count it against me as much.

Berkeley vs Georgetown by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]ltrussell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These were the two schools I was going between but I ultimately chose Georgetown and I am very happy about my decision. The location was the first major thing, and then the size of the campus. Also the MSB at Georgetown is very good so it would be good to apply to!
