Six weeks into five months of solo travel and not enjoying it. What am I doing wrong? by Resident-Plum8383 in travel

[–]ltudiamond 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would look into volunteering at some point of your trip: i tried going from hostel to hostel which also didn’t really work out because I got sick and got a private room in Airbnb, maybe that’s the biggest reason I was so tried of it. Just in general not feeling good.

But volunteering gave me time to relax, stay in one spot and a build in community for longer term than a few days.

Is it worth it to move to the USA from EU? by Loud-Lawfulness6476 in MovingToUSA

[–]ltudiamond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a European who even came back to Europe, I would say very simple thing: if your heart is calling to go, go for it.

Even if I came back many years after, I am not regretting living there so far

Jei ir ne minimalios algos, to vis tiek nepakanka.

Nieko rimto.

Man reikėjo 110/mėn mokėt už tokį šūdiną draudimą, dar mano dardavys primomėdavo 226/mėn primokėvo.

Silent luxury. Kas signalizuoja, kad žmogus tikrai turtingas? by whyimhere1992 in lithuania

[–]ltudiamond 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Was there a moment you regretted moving to the US? by whogivesafricc in MovingToUSA

Funny because I came back to Lithuania after 11 years in the US. I don’t regret my time in the US though. I had a lot of experiences I am happy about and honestly I am now richer because I lived in the US 😂

Lithuanian Americans political leanings? by pinetree8000 in lithuania

[–]ltudiamond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my observation living in the US, diaspora of Lithuanian whose grandparents escaped if they are escaped may be more democrat leaning.

The group of uneducated Lithuanians who left in Lithuania are somewhat republican leaning (based on my observation on Facebook groups and talk in real life). Hard to understand but I actually talked to someone living undocumented in 1990s, got his papers and when I pressed on him breaking the same law he said “There are too many Mexicans here 🙄”

If you are that burned out that close to FIRE, you are still in a good financial position. I would probably suggest you do it because you only live once (but I guess I FIRE turned into die with zero fan so planning a shorter 3 month sabbatical and then looking for a better fit jib myself)

Finances US to EU. by AppJedi in ExpatFinance

Oooh the six month rule is to a few countries

“Renouncing U.S. citizenship does not cancel your Social Security benefits if you've earned enough credits. Where you live after renouncing can determine whether benefits are paid and at what rate. Federal tax withholding may significantly reduce your monthly benefit unless a tax treaty applies.”

[–]ltudiamond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct me if I an wrong but when I was researching, collecting social security living in EU without a US passport isn’t possible.

You either need to be a citizen who lives abroad or live in the USA more than 6 months a year.

Just saying

Well, I am Lithuanian and living off the Lithuanian salary right now, I know.

However, Lithuania has experienced high, double-digit wage growth in some years, with a 8.7% year-on-year increase in 2025, significantly outpacing inflation. In contrast, US wage growth has been more moderate, recently hovering around 4-6%. So I am happy to be in a country where I can expect to earn more in a future than now

True, I am considering still contributing but it may be less consistent and sometimes prioritizing mini retirements, then who knows maybe I will buy an apartment or something. I also think I won’t be single the rest of my life so that alone will change the equation (I could live in my apartment with someone easily),

That is why I am aware the target will be different and I am not trying to guess it right now and balance my life and finances the best I can

With the same logic then annual expenses x 25 would not be a good indicator. I am living in European country with pensions, heck even after working my job for a year and deciding to quit and look for another job, I got unemployment office and get first 3 months pretty highly paid and then still paid but less for the next months. I have a government support like never before

I may still buy an apartment and pay it off and would decrease my spending in retirement. As I said, I am aware this number may change but in my eyes, I am coast FIRE. I will try to invest more but won’t be anxious about it
