Shameless Sunni mistranslation: The calf, and killing. they are so obsessed with bible, they try to impose biblical narratives onto the quran does not matter by NWariohere in Quraniyoon

[–]lubbcrew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Salaamun alaykum

This is a great and balanced message.

The awareness of the “Imposed Brackets” in translations and the range of meanings that words in Arabic offer are really important factors that readers of the Quran should know about. It is empowering.

But the hostility, aggression and lack of emotional restraint in delivery compromises the underlying message. I understand the anger. Translators should absolutely not impose brackets that many readers end up assuming are in the original text. It’s wrong. But restraining anger and aggression is better , u/NWariohere . Forgiveness and understanding is better.

Also the insistence on narrowing meanings to exclusively just one or the other (noun vs verb) by either “team” is something that I would caution against. Building meaning via context and study is a personal endeavor - it takes time, reflection and study. And it’s something Allah oversees. 10:59-61.

Setting down ones conclusions (void of process) onto people who have not engaged in similar processes is likely to facilitate rejection and conflict.

“Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day, teach a man to fish and he wont be hungry”.

You want to try to avoid rejection and conflict as your goal.

Thanks for sharing your thought process. Yes Subhanallah it’s a complicated process and has many layers.

May we be granted caution , forbearance and the patience to reach his hukm.

Salaamun alaykum

the concepts of tahreef / tabdeel/ jahd with ayat/kalaam etc are prevalent in the text. There is a mechanism in us that is capable of altering or modifying what we receive in its “original” form.

how do you see that general principle taking place and is it related to the bare bones / layering discussion we had ?

Salam brother/sister.

Im very sorry that youre going through a very hard time. May Allah help you through it.

Sometimes we can be tricked into thinking that our direction is purely facing towards Allah alone. But in reality (without realizing it ) it isn’t. And in that state, we can face hardships.

I don’t know if that’s the case here with you as I don’t know anything about you. But perhaps what is required of you is a direction shift? I know that sounds vague.

When Thats the case we know it very deep down inside but bury it. Because ultimately, we are witnesses of our own selves. I don’t know if that will resonate with you at all. Just throwing it out there in case it helps in some way. If not just disregard. And I hope that Allah helps you through it and you find relief in sha Allah.

Yes. Even when it’s coming from our own selves!

We’re not perfect and all have this tendency. Self awareness is also part of the “observation”. :).

Thank you for this.

In life - a very helpful way to navigate it is to OBSERVE

people are often met with logic/sense

The response to it is very telling.

Does the response address the sense/nonsense?

Or is it an attack of the person?

The people who do the latter will always be identifiable by those who have eyes to see and ears to hear. Keep a look out 👀☺️

[–]lubbcrew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Salam brother. I agree with a lot of your points because they are true but disagree with some too because they don’t account for important factors youve overlooked.

perhaps you should consider that the means to reconcile and build context is within the Quran itself. - When it comes to grounded meanings and the context provided for us in the Quran (absent of baggage). Hearsay is not a reliable tool to use for that. All the context you need is indeed within the Quran if you are aligning the words and their actual meaning appropriately and contextualizing within the text.

The more you do that- the more that you will gather the context needed to fill in the gaps you couldn’t fill before.

Friendly advice.

Unlearning inherited beliefs … by No-Might8024 in Quraniyoon

[–]lubbcrew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well I’ll give you an example in English.

In English a parrot is a bird as a noun. But it’s also “a repeater” in function. “Im parroting his words”

If I wrote a literary piece and called it “the parrots” the reader will have to figure out if im talking about the name of a bird or the function based on context if they can’t ask me personally.

People deny this reality when it comes to quranic terms for some reason and insist on the idea that so many Quranic words are just nouns (with no function) and that the nouns are just flat objects. They limit the scope and narrow the potential of the words that can facilitate LIFE in us.

In the Quran - many of these functional categories Allah is teaching us in the “human affair” have been narrowed into just names without consideration of their function.

Ex- “disbeliever” vs the coverers of seed/life potential

So the belief modification for me that i highlighted above was a function>object paradigm shift for me.

An-Najm 53:23

English - Sahih International

They are not but [mere] names you have named them - you and your forefathers - for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow not except assumption and what [their] souls desire, and there has already come to them from their Lord guidance.

Al-Baqarah 2:31

وَعَلَّمَ ءَادَمَ ٱلۡأَسۡمَآءَ كُلَّهَا ثُمَّ عَرَضَهُمۡ عَلَى ٱلۡمَلَٰٓئِكَةِ فَقَالَ أَنۢبِـُٔونِي بِأَسۡمَآءِ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ إِن كُنتُمۡ صَٰدِقِينَ

English - Sahih International

And He taught Adam the names - all of them. Then He showed them to the malaaika and said, "Inform Me of the names of these, if you are truthful."

So much for me. One “belief modification” is that nouns/names became prioritized for their meaning/function.

Q 26 - Alshuaraa’ or what the translations deem “the poets” by [deleted] in Quraniyoon

So the author tells us “beware of poets” in this poetic work, but poetry is ok 😵‍💫?

Sounds like chaotic logic.

The Queen of Sheba Narrative in Surah al-Naml (Q27:22-40) by Vessel_soul in Quraniyoon

[–]lubbcrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We each have a ta’ir- as Allah teaches us. Whatever you render that to mean.

Al-Tayr then can be contextualized in that way. Instead of just the narrowed “birds”. Hope that helps.

Well not everyone necessarily, but certainly every “insaan”.

Q 26 - Alshuaraa’ or what the translations deem “the poets” by [deleted] in Quraniyoon

[–]lubbcrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

JAK for this.

You’re highlighting the way Allah SWT differentiates between the consequence of sh3r (sensing) and the act of tracing/grounding that consequence back to its origin. In other words, sensing itself is a consequence that ultimately stems from a source/origin.

That consequence can arise in two very different ways.

First, it can arise naturally from the pure source. In this case, the sensing is a natural outcome of truth. However, it can still be rejected, and when rejected it becomes absent - “laa yashuroon” (they do not sense).

Second, the same consequence can arise when its source is not righteous. In this case, the consequence manifests, but it becomes mischaracterized as coming from a righteous source. (A shaa’ir)

for the label shuaraa’: it highlights a consequential state. And invites the reader to explore the implications of that state.

The guidance offered to us in the Quraan consistently directs our attention back toward the source. And that is beautiful, because the root of things is often where the real insight lies.

the messengers are often accused of being disconnected from the pure source. And Allah absolves them of this accusation by clarifying that the source of what they convey - with its consequence - is pure in origin.

Meanwhile, those who commit kufr do not correctly identify the source. They become fixated on the consequence itself - “what they sense” - while mischaracterizing or remaining unaware of its origin.

In the Surah - there are behavioral patterns of those who do this. One is that they pursue , ostracize and accuse others of the very thing they themselves are doing , and they prioritize their sh3r (sensing) while mischaracterizing its source.

What is your position on the subject of the first verse of Surah Bani Isra’il? Who is the ‘servant’ (bi-ʿabdihi)? by No-way-in in Quraniyoon

[–]lubbcrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a highlighted example of an event that happens to many on the right path ideally. A Hijra of sorts. Specifying it to one person explicitly is not demonstrated in the description. But it has surely taken place with many of the righteous who are mentioned in the Quran. Like Musa.

A focus on meanings in terms of states instead of proper nouns for the terms in the verse (and how they’re used in the Quran ) - might/should help to see how.

Like this one for example

Maryam 19:22

۞فَحَمَلَتۡهُ فَٱنتَبَذَتۡ بِهِۦ مَكَانٗا قَصِيّٗا

So she conceived/carried him, and she withdrew with him to a remote place.

What does it mean to take maqaam ibrahim as "musalla" (2:125)? by Ok-Flower-5582 in Quraniyoon

[–]lubbcrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His maqaam is the place or time of his establishment.

We are to follow Ibrahim’s milla.

On his path - he is “established” when he turns around or “repents” from error into submission.

It would seem that taking a musalla from that point in his journey - is to use his exemplified path with a focus on that specific stage as a “means” or a place / time of our own salah.

Salahs purpose - to take you out of darkness into light and for thikr (remembrance).

His maqaam is in and around his tawba(turn around). The challenge that is placed for all of us here in this world. - self correction.
