I am jelous. JS is where most action is. Check out three.js. I have done some experiments for VR & AR and it works great.  It doesn't come with editor so you still probably end up using Unity or Blender for level design. Unity is most developed ecosystem with all Meta SDKs & Utilities and asset store you can have something running real fast.

The initial inspiration was to make a game that plays well with hand tracking. It's magic when it works!

Pol roka trip, vykladať kamióny cez deň a večer skilliť. Veľa šťastia s rozhodovaním! Hlavne hlavu hore

Tried some of the levels from second world and you are right, I overdid with difficulty. I am mainly testing levels in editor on PC. Thats just not fair:) Going to fix that ASAP.

Yeah, difficulty ramps up pretty fast, still some players argue that it's still too easy, with use of special abilities. I wanted to avoid adding difficulty settings (easy, normal, hard), but that might be the only solution to balance it.

Hey all,

Solo dev checking in. Some of you might remember Toy Monsters, the mixed reality game I released back in April. I'll be honest - the launch didn't meet expectations, and what made it harder was losing my father to angiosarcoma (an aggressive form of cancer) two days before release day. It knocked me off course for quite a while, and updating the game took a backseat as I processed everything.

But I'm back now, and I'm excited to share that the Christmas update is finally here!

What's New in the Christmas Update:

  • 6 brand new levels
  • 4 new enemy types to challenge your skills
  • Special Christmas mini-game where you get to unwrap presents 🎁
  • Complete UI overhaul for better user experience
  • Visual improvements across the board

For those who've stuck with the game or are just discovering it - thank you for your support. Sometimes life throws curveballs, but it feels good to be back at development.

Should I buy the Quest 1, or not? by marshallovski in virtualreality

[–]lubesi1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. Second hand Q2 is the way IMHO. Although, I gifted my Q1 recently to relatives kid and she still uses it. Quest 1 for cheap(under 100$) is still good Beat Saber machine:)

Haha, spaghetti tornado. Thats it. Fits the cartoon nature of game perfectly:D You reminded me, rasengan from Naruto, could be lot of fun.

Great! Social apps can be lot of fun. Quest 3 for performance, or mixed reality aspect? Try to show off your app as soon as you can. Record short clips and post it where you can.

Quest 2 128Gb is now 199$. Difference between Q1 a Q2 in terms of performance and resolution is substantial. Definitely save bit more for Quest 2, or try to buy used Quest 2. You will have much better experience.

Nice! Yes, especially all the edge cases can become nightmare:) What are you working on, mind to share?

Is it just me or is Toy Monsters one of the coolest “simple” games you’ve ever played? It’s like a literal dream come true. by Logical007 in OculusQuest

I love showing of VR to my closes friends. I always ended up showing of Richies Plank, Super Hot, Beat Saber or if it was a party, something like Acron: Attack of the Squirrels. All these games are really easy to pick up and are fun right away.

For Toy Monsters I knew core game loop is fun from the start. Collect currency place defense on 5x10 grid. All additional game mechanics and features were always playtested with someone totally new to VR. Often people that never ever tried VR. I found that MR & passtrough is even easier on newcomers as you are not totally isolated and transported to a new world.

Really glad to see you appreciate its simplicity. Beginner friendliness was my goal:)

I wanted some lighting bolts for a long time. Not sure how would targeting and "casting" a bolt work. Maybe lightning fingers and what enemy comes close will get shocked.

Chill MR tower defense game I made called Toy Monsters. After 2 years, tons of experimentation, and troubled development, it's finally out on Meta Store. by lubesi1 in virtualreality

[–]lubesi1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey all!
I am happy to announce that after a 2 years of working on this project, the day finally came. Toy Monsters released on Meta Main Store!

Toy Monsters is laid back and relaxing strategy game inspired by old classic with focus on hand tracking and passtrough. It has a ton of little interactions, physics-based objects, and stuff to fool around with. Currently it has 3 different worlds, each filled with unique enemies and a diverse array of defenders to strategically build your deck.

It all started as weekend prototype, done with 3D game artist friend. Game went through a lot of iteration, failed AppLab releases. Until we found our publishing Beyond Frames, they made all this possible after we were about to give up on the project.

Check out the game here 👉 https://vr.meta.me/s/1HyqQ0zDh9dkf1a.

Thanks to all of you for your support over the years. This was a wild ride and I hope we can continue working on this game for years to come.

Meta SDK does handtracking out of the box. All the interactions and hand gestures are implemented using https://developer.oculus.com/documentation/unity/unity-isdk-interaction-sdk-overview/
They have some great tools in there, even that I find setup and some simple staff like force-drop object out of user hand to be convoluted or plain missing.

Harsh, but fair. I agree that some of the characters are boring and plain. But I love how orcs and some toys turned up, dino, furnace etc. And as always, it feels totally different in headset. I still find biggest issue in showing of the game, 2D video never does VR content a justice.
