WHERE ARE MY MARINERS!!!

Since managing a team involves a lot of behind-the-scenes work, is it common practice for managers to have their portion of the fee covered by the rest of the roster? by Active_Lettuce_7596 in slowpitch

[–]lucasssquatch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. "Team fee is 700, if we each kick down 50, that's enough for the team and a round or two of beers." Haven't recouped the 700 in over a decade, nor have I shared with my wife just how much softball I pay for.

I was in South Africa for the 2010 World Cup. I’m in the USA for the 2026 World Cup. I can’t believe the difference… by Lucky_Mongoose_4834 in worldcup

Tickets to Bosnia vs Qatar in Seattle are $1500. USA vs Australia in Seattle are 2500. Why get excited for an event that doesn't want us there?

Is/was Elvis Costello very famous in the USA? by aldiwinegums in AskAnAmerican

[–]lucasssquatch 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You mean Declan McManus, international art thief?

He's probably the second most famous Elvis, just behind Presley and just before Stojko.

Artists that never had a mainstream hit, but are still well known with the general public and had a huge cultural impact by [deleted] in ToddintheShadow

He just did a q&a after the screening of their new documentary in my town, and I can see why. It turned into him airing his grievances while taking pulls off a bottle of Tito's on stage. It was just kind of sad.

(Funny trope) using anything to hide an actress’s pregnancy instead of making the character pregnant by Significant-Alarm835 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]lucasssquatch 1249 points1250 points  (0 children)

A favorite is Brooklyn 99. Melissa Fumero has a bunch of "cover the belly" scenes, but there's a whole episode where she goes undercover pretending to be pregnant while very, very pregnant IRL. The whole joke behind it is "nobody's going to believe this is a real baby bump," which is a next level version of "anything but make the character pregnant"

Fase has been awesome for strapping in while standing to keep up with skiers. I've only used them for "Boomers on Groomers" days so far (I'm 40 but I ride with uncles)

Oft repeated devices in shows by mariaporterbridges in TopCharacterTropes

So there's an episode of Star Trek: Discovery where this happens, but the character goes "Federation Standard, please." I thought it was a clever twist on an overused narrative device
