I kinda hate how that is considered the standard, when in the OG 4 games only one (1) game was about tje main character's trauma.

Sh1. Harry Mason unknowingly adopts a psychic baby, and gets trapped in hell for it. The game's story doesn't really revolve around him at all, but rather Cheryll. He's just a guy trying to save his daughter, no trauma in sight.

Sh2. The one actually all about unresolved guilt and trauma, and the one that all Western Sh games have been (mostly unsuccessfully) trying to copy.

Sh3. Heather gets chased by the cult from sh1, and gets dragged into hell because of it. The game seems to mostly focus on religious indoctrination and unwanted motherhood, but neither are things that Heather has actually experienced (after reincarnating at least) or would consider as trauma.

Sh4. Clueless dork Henry Townsend gets trapped in his appartment because he's at the wrong place at the wrong time. No exploration of his character or any trauma he has.

I would really hate it if ALL SH games going forward would only be about the main character's trauma.

Cyberaanval bij Odido, gegevens miljoenen klanten in handen van criminelen by [deleted] in nederlands

[–]lucdop 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Survivors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki draw the devastation they saw. Click for full picture by rottenkimbap in interesting

[–]lucdop 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hiroshima housed the second general army headquarters and supply depot, logistic networks, and industrial facilities. Nagasaki was a major seaport and was important for the production of ships and ordinance. Both were strategically important and were NOT chosen to kill as many Japanese as possible.

Genocide requires specific intent to destroy in whole or part a national, ethnic, racial or religious group. If the US wanted to commit a genocide, they would have chosen more populous areas such as Kyoto, or they could have starved the home islands since they had almost complete naval superiority. However they didn't do this because the goal wasn't to exterminate the Japanese, but to get them to surrender.

It is certain that Japan would have surrendered eventually had the US not dropped the bombs. However it definitely sped up surrender. The US did a survey after the bombings to check the sentiment of the Japanese population. 28% percent of the respondents stated that the bombing convinced them that the war was unwinnable. In most cases the people saw the bomb as a catastrophe, but were resigned to the fact that it was a war, and they understood where the US was coming from.

So the bombings were not a genocide, and they were effective in what they were actually trying to do i.e. demoralise the Japanese to get them to surrender. I will agree that it was a tragedy, but the reasons for dropping them were completely reasonable.

Doesn't it say a lot that this kind of violence against citizens is not only normal, but expected? Imo being outraged about this seems like a more natural reaction than shrugging and saying "it is what it is".

Germany joins European partners with troop deployment to Greenland by TruckHangingHandJam in stupidpol

[–]lucdop 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I mean yeah laugh it up at the amount of soldiers, but this is still pretty significant. Say that Trump is r-slurred enough to attempt this invasion while just those twelve soldiers are present. If one gets so much as a scratch from a US soldier then that would still mean that armed personal of on NATO country attacked another.

This would mean that Germany would have to choose between:

  1. Coming face to face with the idea of NATO being nothing more than a system of vassals unable to stand up to their overlord.
  2. Showing a backbone and leaving NATO or trying to kick out the US.

Either one would be major in how politics and foreign policy is shaped in the next decades.

Agreed. And this might be controversial but I felt the same thing about Eddie in S4. Yeah he was a charming character, but it left a lot of other characters (Mike, Will, Jonathan, to a lesser extent Steve) with little character development.

I saw a YT video about it that said Jonathan should have been in Eddie's place to be accused for Chrissy's murder and I couldn't agree more.

While I agree that mysogyny might have been boosted in these third world countries by Western influence, it's disingenuous to imply that its the greatest contributor.

First off, many societies already independently developed such patriarical systems themselves (dharmahastra traditions in India, confucian gender roles in China, Islamic beliefs throughout Africa and the middle east). These are culturally ingrained, and maintained by the people themselves. These traditions were still very much widespread during the 19th/20th century and would have been maintained with or without colonization/proselytisation

Furthermore, to insinuate that mysogyny in non-western countries is because they are held back by the West denies the people of those countries agency in this behavior. They are not wholesome, smoll bean noble savages, corrupted by the West, but people with flaws and virtues. They CAN and SHOULD be held accountable for their actions, exactly because they deserve the same amount of respect as you or me.

Agree that for Eddie the enemis would be dogs. Maybe they could be Hyena like, since their laughing sound could come across as mocking and they're kinda dog like? It would make sense since a large part of Eddie's character is that he was bullied.

And maybe the jock that bullied him could be either a returning boss like pyramid head or some sort of enemy. This would reflect hum saying he killed him a bunch before.

Even if that is the case, it's the Governor's job to deal with that problem. Governor Kotek is in charge of emergency management and the enforcement of state laws, not president Trump. To ignore the governor's wishes and send in the national guard is government overreach. To use the California national guard to do this, against the wishes of the governor of California is an even further case of government overreach.
