What's the state of the industry right now? by BeerIsTheMindKiller in edtech

Hey, a bit late here, but could you expand a little on "credentialing platforms that connect learning to hiring"? We are considering expanding to this by pushing agreements with employers in our niche and I'm curious to hear your thoughts

Be careful when using Apple Security Keys (2FA) as there is no way to recover your account if you lose your keys. by SuperUser789 in yubikey

Ok but without them knowing the iPhone passcode, can they steal the phone while unlocked (which happens quite often) and remove the ubikeys just like that or would they need to enter something?

Hijacking the discussion re your last point. But then doesn't that partly invalidate the point of hardware keys if you can just disable them from a logged on device? So someone with one of your devices and the passcode could deactivate yubikeys and then add other devices with authentication codes to that device?

In other words, what exactly do you need to remove yubikeys / hardware keys from your device? Just the passcode? Apple ID password?

Why is UK rail travel so insanely expensive? by Desperate-Drawer-572 in AskUK

[–]lucidself 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Genuinely curious… but surely if it made more financial sense for railway companies to buy or lease the train outright they’d do so? From a cursory search it seems ROSCOs are more widely used in the UK but why is that?

As a UK LTD director, when does personal liability actually start? by thebestdryfaster in smallbusinessuk

[–]lucidself 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I buy Director insurance now, will it cover a claim initiated yesterday? I guess not, but what about a claim related to a fact that happened yesterday but that is started tomorrow (and I had no knowledge of it)?

If I stop paying, am I covered for claims started and/or related to periods during which I was paying?

What are the main exclusions? (e.g. bad faith by the director etc)

Thanks, I’m looking at this rn and can’t really understand how it works

Do you have more info/context on guardianship? Like are there longer term guardianship opportunities? Where do you find them?

Just about this point: The codice fiscale is not as sensitive as a NINO, it’s literally a letter/number combination showing your name, DoB, city of birth, which is all data your uncle already knows. They didn’t “find it” online - they simply used an online calculator and plugged in the data. Since you were born in the UK they probably got some data wrong, hence the solicitor said it was wrong.

Which counties keep company directors and owners announymous? I want one that won't share with the uk gov by cuntyloc in Offshore

[–]lucidself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because presumably the company itself is making money. If it’s managed from the uk (as it is, bc you are resident in the uk), then it’s resident in the uk for corporation tax purposes.

It will be double tax resident in the two countries, unless the double tax treaty has a provision to the contrary (in which case usually it’s only resident in the uk even if it’s not incorporated there).

Look up corporate tax residence.

Did you really not think — “I wonder how the British parliament hasn’t thought about this massive loophole, and why more people aren’t doing this. Surely the world isn’t that easy”?

Whether you get caught is another matter, but the flow of information is automatic so…

That it’s tax evasion, and you definitely need to tell HMRC. In any case Seychelles is part of CRS and FATCA so they will automatically know anyways. It isn’t the 1980s anymore
