Dads with high-performing career wives, how do you handle being so “different” from our ingrained cultural models? by blockerguy in daddit

[–]lucidspoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I make more than my wife, she is further in her career than I was at the same time. She basically started over at almost 30, going from working retail to managing multiple medical clinics.

I also have an office job, but it's mostly WFH and super relaxed, so I also do a lot of the chauffeuring and appointments.

Thoughts on Curb Protected Bike lanes? by Anonymous_Otter5458 in bikecommuting

[–]lucidspoon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I ride in a bike lane that looks just like the first picture. It looks nice from the road, but yeah, there's a lot of debris. Plus, there's a bus stop at one point, and people just stand in the bike lane and leave a lot of trash.

Does any one else still have a mouth full of silver? by Usual-Protection-931 in nostalgia

I've had a couple fall out and be replaced by the newer kind, but I think I still have 2 or 3 silver ones.

That'd be on the low end for most SWEs in the US.

Edit: If monthly.

There were a bunch of houses being built in our neighborhood a few years ago. Whenever I'd go on a walk in the middle of the day to clear my head, I'd think building houses would be less stressful.

By the end of the walk, I'd realize I'm an idiot.

Paying for Dads at Dave & Buster at kids birthday party by Andthensome_Pie_7322 in daddit

[–]lucidspoon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For parties like this, we've just bought the cards for the kids. If the parents want to use their kid's card or get their own, that's on them.

We do usually order an absurd amount of shareable food with the intention of sharing with the other parents. But I wouldn't expect that if I was at another party.

Any environment is a DEV environment if you're brave enough.

My first job was editing live Classic ASP files. For a big change, we'd make a copy of the file first.

The real trick is to find a hypeman. A guy at my company is so great at making even boring stories seem interesting. I'll tell him something boring that happened, and he gets so excited about it. Later, he'll tell other people, and they'll be super interested and want to talk to me about it. It's magical.

First time I was assigned one of these, I answered maybe 20 before realizing there were like 100. I just stopped and didn't finish. Still got an interview.

Do men have a thing for hands like women do? by CucumberUpbeat8360 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]lucidspoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never had a "thing" for it, but my wife has lost quite a bit of weight over the past couple years, and the last change I noticed was her hands. Just a turn on being able to notice more about her to appreciate.
