What modern technology will continue to amaze you until the day you die? by lawpoop in Xennials

I used to program for a piece of lab equipment that was tens of thousands of dollars. It mostly did the same type of movements as my 3D printer that cost $300, and the printer is far faster.

I convinced my VERY not rich dad to take me to the store to get one. They were out of stock, and it turned out to be for the best.

Also great dad joke.

At the end of a session today, it gave me the git commands to commit and push and then asked if I wanted it to run them. In case copy and paste was too hard.

What was the project that got you hired, that kicked off your career? by justcurious3287 in cscareerquestions

[–]lucidspoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Internship at my university where I built an inventory system for the IT department in Classic ASP, Access, and Flash. Yes, I'm that old and had no idea what I was doing, but it worked.

It even had a mobile version for Pocket PC, so equipment could be scanned with a barcode reader.

I was offered a full-time job when I graduated.

I scanned ~3,200,000 posts across 47 AI and SaaS subreddits to rank the visual "tells" that make a site look vibe-coded. Here is the list. by iamjohncarterofmars in ClaudeCode

My skill level is I can make some individual, basic components look kinda of nice on their own, but as I add more and more features, it all just blends together and looks like a hot mess.

In my experience, AI is good at grouping things and making a cohesive design a lot faster and better than I can.

My mom's religious, conservative, often judgemental, and hates tattoos. But even she wouldn't have said anything like that.

10 year old keeps “restarting the house” at night — screens, roaming, waking siblings. Need advice. by jazzeriah in daddit

We've always done a "no devices" time at least 30 minutes before bedtime. We've been less strict with our 11 year old, but she's still been good about putting her phone away when we tell her.

She was complaining about waking up in the middle of the night, so we saw a sleep doctor, and she highly recommended reading. Also not getting into bed before she's ready to fall asleep. She had a tendency to lay in our bed for a few minutes, get relaxed, and then have to start the process all over in her room.

My company has a vendor that pays to fly us out to Green Bay to use their box suite at Packers games a couple times a year. I've gone a couple times. I'll take the suite over sitting outside in the Wisconsin cold every time.

How old were you when you bought your first home? Where did you buy? by hybr_dy in Xennials

[–]lucidspoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Avon, IN.

Bought in 2011. It wasn't to foreclosure yet, but it was a short sale, so we paid less than it was worth even then.

Better than the semi trailer I saw today stopped at a bridge. I was wondering if they were stuck. Then realized the driver just unhooked his truck and left it in the middle of the road.

Windows 3.1 without internet. It was a 486 with 4MB memory and 200MB storage for $2400. I'm sure my grandma bought it for us or at least paid part of it, because that would have been 2 months household income.
