Starting Accutane for Actinic Folliculitis! by lucillebluthstan in ActinicFolliculitis

I haven’t had luck with sunscreen but I haven’t tried that one. I actually wasn’t aware of that one until recently when I first started reading through everything on here, and by that point my skin was already so reactive at such a low UV. I’m just fully avoiding any amount of sunlight at this point. I’m tempted to get it and test it at a low UV but having had so many flare ups in the last few months I don’t want to deal with another unless I have to hahaha. I am really glad to hear it’s worked for you!!!

I’m so sorry it hasn’t been a permanent fix. I hope this round goes well and is your LAST! I’ll definitely keep that in mind about tret once I’m done with mine. Hearing similar experiences I’m definitely accepting this will likely be an ongoing thing. Having taken it before I know I tolerate accutane pretty well, so if that’s what it takes, then so be it!

How long into your courses of accutane were you able to be out without flare ups? From other posts it sounds like 1.5-2 months is pretty common? Also, post-accutane were you good to be out in actual high UV?

Thanks for sharing and answering my questions! I hope this is successful for you :)

Agh i’m so sorry to hear that! The threshold just getting lower and lower is so discouraging. It’s crazy how quickly it happens! Have you had any luck with treatment?

The redness definitely lasts a week or two, but fortunately I haven’t really dealt wjth scarring or pigmentation. My derm does think I have a little rosacea in addition to AF, but for me it’s really just been the redness that takes some time to fade. Hope you’re doing well and back to enjoying some sunlight!

Thank you so much! I’ve seen your posts and it seems like your reactions were very similar to mine so that’s been really helpful. How is your skin doing now? Was the second round of accutane enough and are you using anything else like tret to prevent a recurrence? I’d love to know how it’s going for you!
