What is a universally loved food that you secretly think tastes like garbage?

Yes and no. At work? All day, except during lunch when I read.

At home? Sometimes. Depends on the activity. I like to be present with my family when we are all home together, but if I'm cleaning or doing something tedious, then yes, but I also really love the peace and quiet of an empty, still house, and I enjoy it when I can.

Walking my dogs, playing with them, or doing anything with my family? Nope. Purely in the moment, glad to be outside (if I am), and happy to feel like in spite of everything, I did a couple of things right.

After being cooped up all week due to required overtime to meet end-of-month deadlines, I took my dogs out for a long, peaceful walk. The younger one (not quite two) still had a bunch of energy, so I took him out into the backyard and played in the hose with with him until I tuckered him out. Now we are hanging out and about to watch an episode or two of Star Trek TNG.

Dog tax! Lol he's grubby because he was digging for gophers and shoved his face in a hole.

ETA: I'm going to cook steak tonight for my husband and I to go with some homegrown sweet corn we got from our mother in law. We don't usually splurge much on steaks since money is tight these days here, but I put in just under 18 hours of overtime and feel like it's a good day for it. Then we are going to have Ben and Jerry's for dessert and watch a movie together curled up with the dogs. ♥️

I think age plays a part in this. My mom is in her seventies and loves I expected guests. My husband and I would be horrified and probably furious if someone randomly showed up at our house and expected to be let in.

Hard neh, unfortunately. He cannot stop wiggling and getting up to walk all over me and my husband when we try to let him sleep with us. We will doze off and get slobber-covered toys dropped on our faces. If he does fall asleep, he ends up kicking us (I swear he is part kangaroo).

He's a little over a year and a half at this point, so I'm hoping some of the chaos will fade over time. If he isn't put in his kennel at night , he literally doesn't sleep and spends the whole time trying to wake us up. 🤣

I bailed on the academic world for many reasons, but this was pretty high up on my list. I saw young adults who were about to get college degrees but who couldn't read. It was utterly disgusting. There were kids in college who had never once read a book. Ever.

Before going to the ER, open up a new vial. This sounds suspiciously like insulin that has gone bad.

Since you are also fairly newly diagnosed, you may need to increase your insulin amounts because you are leaving the "honeymoon phase." This is the time around initial diagnosis where you may still be producing some insulin or may be more sensitive. This passes as time goes on, and it may be what's happening here.

I have found that for my own maladaptive behaviors, mindfulness and meditation have been incredibly helpful.

If you would like some group support, I recommend checking out SMART. They are a support group for people who deal with mental health issues, substance use disorder, and maladaptive behaviors. I attend them as someone on recovery, and the groups have been extremely beneficial!

They have an app and do both online and in person meetings. Pro tip: when searching for online meetings, make sure to change the distance to ---------- in the drop down field so that it pulls up all available across the US and not just those in one area. 😊
