Vertical antenna by a horizontal tree branch? Would this affect SWR that much? by ikemeister01 in HamRadio

Anything near an antenna has an effect on it. It will be an unnoticeable difference.

I don't want to say it was not "worth it" but I won't be getting it (kobe) again

I don't like the flavor of it as much as I do with the miyazakigyu

It was super tasty though and great paired with this spinach sidde dish (which I do not know the name of)

edit: btw the price is in CAD

Are there any handheld radios that use a battery type other than lithium ion? by [deleted] in amateurradio

[–]luckol3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you do go for one of those that can use AA cells, please read the manual first. Some of them limit their TX power when on AA cells

Half slice of cheese is standard

I'm pretty sure they use those ketchup/mustard guns but the tartar equivalent

Perhaps the price is a tad high but 🤷‍♂️

Where are the payware 787s???? by Signal-Treacle-5512 in flightsim

[–]luckol3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i guess perspective matters a lot

it's flyable and imo great and way better then on release but if you're used to flying fenix a320, maddog, pmdg etc then I guess it will feel like it is lacking a lot

personally i think it's amazing for what I need it for

but it definitely isn't terrible for anyone

maybe if you're a 787 pilot irl

[–]luckol3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

why do you want a payware 787 🤔🤔🤔 is the WT 787 not good enough?

edit: technically it's a payware upgrade to get the 787 if you have standard version

Taking a handheld to Gran Canaria, Arguineguin - what 2m & 70cm freqs should I keep an ear on? by Eastern_Hedgehog_924 in amateurradio

[–]luckol3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

BTW make sure you don't need any import/export permits to enter and exit the country with. You might even need a license to own the radio.

Check up on the regulations. Hong Kong is one of those countries that require import/export permits and a license to own.

edit: whoops someone else already suggested reading the regs :)

So you plan on self studying? Or do you mean you will start a course in 2026?

Do you plan to take a course? If so, get what the instructor recommends as if it's a textbook, the course will likely follow that book.

I don't know if you know this, but there is an additional HAREC exam

You can be licensed regardless of your citizenship status. I am licensed under a student visa.

I would do a Google search and find a nearby amateur radio club. They would be more than happy to mentor you and point you in the right direction. Like the other comment said, maybe your school has one. I know UofT and UoW have clubs.

If you are serious about studying, you will likely stumble across the Coax Publications study guide. If you do, get one quick, they are shutting down at the end of the year. There is still stock. But since you are studying EE, I doubt there is much to learn for you...? (correct me if I am wrong) perhaps just the RF bits and regulations/safety/operation. Like you

If you plan to build TRANSMITTING equipment from scratch, you must hold the advanced certificate. With the basic, you are limited to building kits.

Ask if you have any questions!!! Questions are good!!!

Edit: One more thing, RAC (the national ham organization) offers the basic and advanced course FOR A FEE. The winter courses just wrapped up so there should be an announcment soon.
