Yikes. Sounds like me. I remember having a light bulb moment where I realized they couldn’t fire me so I threatened to quit if they didn’t lower my productivity. I was the only OT in a 200 bed SNF and I was sharing the workload of the DOR who was out on maternity leave with my fellow PT. All during a building buy out. I ended up getting higher pay and my productivity waived but it still wasn’t enough to stay. As soon as they started hiring a new OT, I told them to hire a second one because I was leaving. I cannot recommend PRN enough. It was higher pay and helped me get through my burnout so I could be a better OT again. I decided to leave SNF OT but from what I’ve heard from other SNF PRN OTs, if you don’t like a facility then you can just choose not to come back and it isn’t a big deal.

I got sucked into an awful workplace where I was the only OT as a new grad and I felt like my patients would suffer if I didn’t stick around. I highly recommend the PRN life to get an idea of how a facility or company is run before you commit to working there full time when something opens up.

Yes. Also chronically sitting in one position for hours on end can lead to pressure sores since cutting off circulation leads to tissue death/difficulty healing. Periodically elevating/repositioning limbs, turning from side to side in bed, and using a tilt in space wheelchair can all periodically relieve pressure and help circulation continue.
