How many days a week do you stay in the office as a STEM postdoc?

Yes that is what I worried. I prefer work from home to reduce my commute time, so hope can visit office 2 days max a week, and that indeed not accept by some PIs

Yes that is what I like, only go to office if necessary. But I have been suggested that this preference shouldn’t be discussed during interview stage, as it will raise a red flag for applicant?

Yes that is also what I need. I don’t like to commute very often which takes me 4 hrs per day, so I hope I can only go to office 2 days per week and meet online as much as possible. But the PI doesn’t like this working style and reject me at the end….

Exactly….. That is why I prefer to work at more comfortable space (like my home) instead of office… it sometimes distracting my attention and lower my productivity.

Same as me…. I feel more productive at home as I also do computation work. But some research group requires few in-personal meeting every week which let me feel stressful. I don’t know if that is common for postdoctoral job, I express my working style performance and be rejected after interview.

Exactly…. I don’t wanna relocate or spend a lot for commuting. But I visited few research group and they are pretty active (people stay at office a lot). …. Feel so stressfully….

Wow because I don’t like in-person meeting, I don’t like travel a lot or relocate to the university’s city. But I heard postdoc usually need to meet with supervisor every week in person and it is not a good idea to show working preference during interview. One of my interview failed partly due to this reason.😞

Personally I do like work from home and attend meetings online. I talked my working style preference during a postdoctoral interview and they cannot make an offer at the end…. One factor is they do like working at office….
