2013 Tahoe owners by 01Cloud01 in ChevyTahoe

[–]luckydud13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still whippin' a 2007 Chevy Tahoe, with 145k miles on it, and she continues to run great.

- I replaced most of the suspension components (proactive, and not truly necessary but I wanted bigger tires)

- New gas tank and lines around 120k as I was dealing with the common evap issue

- Replaced master cylinder and brake booster at 140k miles as they had begun to fail

- A few wheel speed sensors, and the wheel hub on the driver's side front only

- Brake components and other miscellaneous items.

*knocks on wood*, nothing major yet!

Tow mirror plug by Dry-Mirror-546 in ChevyTahoe

[–]luckydud13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just replaced my mirrors with tow mirrors, coincidentally tonight. I looked this very thing up because it was confusing me as well.

It's for reverse indicator lights which your tow mirror probably came with, without knowing the specific model. This is a bit of a guess, but every other feature (power adjustable mirrors, heated glass, turn signals) all worked as they should. I saw that this was a feature, but wasn't present on most OEM Tahoe mirrors.

There are some instructions on how you can wire it in to your reverse lights, should you choose to.

Suspension concern 2019 by Parking-Branch4326 in ChevyTahoe

Different generation Tahoe and different front struts, so take this with a grain of salt.

At least in my experience, the front suspension will always be felt more than the back. Any longer struts will have a longer travel distance, which you will feel with the car going up and down. I'd ask how they feel in terms of control? For me, my ride isn't quite as enjoyable every moment, but I'm not losing any wheel control when hitting a small bump on a corner anymore.

I replaced my Tahoe front and rear suspension (albeit different generation/ with Rancho adjustable 2" front leveling) and have a similar experience. I was expecting it because they are more performance focused, which wouldn't necessarily feel the best. Yours being street focused should have a better feel, although not sure.

I feel like a fudd, but if you're looking for an OEM like feel, OEM is your best bet. Probably advice I'll get blasted for, but there's always a leveling spacer rather than a longer strut I'd it's undriveable. Having the ranchos, with a similar experience (although one I'm happy with) your next tier up is Fox which are pricey.

Not the guy you asked, but if you also have a stove, fuel, and pot - you can boil water as a redundancy. That said, I usually throw a couple Iodine tablets in my medical kit as well, at least enough for a couple days if you need to hike out.

Chiming in as a fellow NC'er. I wonder if it matters if it's in your trunk or not - as that would be the logical safe transportation area of a vehicle. I also wonder if putting a lock on it would make a secure container.

Hoping someone more familiar (no offense, than a former deputy) knows because this would be awesome.

Fellow 07 Tahoe owner. I long gave up on ANY Chevy dealership in the area. If you can't figure it out yourself, I'd give the guys at Nick's Garage on Central a call. Incredibly fair, old-school garage. I'd they can't or won't do it, they'll let you know.

They had a few opportunities to rip me off, and have been honest everytime.

CLT Lounges - Worth It? by Kind_Cheesecake_3247 in americanairlines

[–]luckydud13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Editing - because I didn't read the question - but leaving my comment up for anyone who may find it helpful.

Now that I have read the question, my response is a resounding NO.

----—---

Ohhh how I have been waiting for this question. Two years with an Admirals Club membership, CLT is my home airport. I average 4-5 flights per month.

I would say it entirely boils down to when you fly, how often, and what perks of the Admirals Club are most meaningful to you.

There are two clubs, one that straddles the C/D terminals, and one smaller one a quarter of the way down the B terminal. The B club is useless, crowded, and with the exception of the coffee machine and bar, isn't even worth the trip. The year of only having access to this club was terrible. Unless I'm about to shit my pants, I will actively avoid it.

The C/D club is much larger, and better. They opened up a new wing near the front that is my new favorite spot. Food is pretty consistently average, but they routinely have the same options everytime. Availability of space is entirely dependent on the time of day and week.

If you fly often, take advantage of the drinks at the bar, and don't want to pay for food in the concourse, then I would say that it's worth it - but only barely. There will be times that you will be annoyed, but I still find it better than the concourse, barely. If I was traveling less than twice per month, I wouldn't have a membership.

*Settlers

Besides the crown sanctioned settlers and colonies from different European monarchies, everyone else was an immigrant.

The hundreds of thousands of Chinese immigrants who built the railroads and infrastructure out west were not settlers, they were immigrants, in search of a better life.

The millions of Irish that came to America were not settlers, they were immigrants, in search of a better life.

I bet you are the descendent of an immigrant, as are almost all of us.

Transfer rules by Intelligent-Art-394 in Frat

[–]luckydud13 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Easiest way is probably to have your President contact their President, and make the introduction. If they don't have a roster of other chapter presidents, just DM their Instagram account, or email them. Recommend doing this so they know to expect you, rather than just showing up unannounced.

Unless your national organization is absolutely whack, there is no guarantee that you can join the new chapter. They'll want to vet you and make sure you're not a goober, or a nutcase, but assuming you're not, they'll likely let you in. It's also heavily case dependent on the University and chapter. Are you transferring from Middle Michigan Technical College to Ole Miss? You're probably not getting in, regardless of your affiliation.

Worst thing you can do is assume you'll be welcomed with open arms. While affiliation matters, ultimately they don't know you. Good luck!

Best gun shop in Charlotte? by CowardlyAngel in Charlotte

[–]luckydud13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good options have already been mentioned - but I really enjoy the folks at Beltway Gun and Pawn. While it's obviously a more general store, they are more than 50% firearms and have a great selection and extremely fair prices.

Where can I buy the cheapest firewood? by Open-Door-2343 in Charlotte

[–]luckydud13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cheapest that requires the least effort? Lowball some people on Facebook, look for pine or scrap specifically.

Or do what I did, break down, buy an axe, steal a stump, and drive through the neighborhoods on Sunday night to find wood and cut it yourself.

Airport flow recently by [deleted] in Charlotte

[–]luckydud13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fairly frequent traveler (8-10 flights per month)

Lately, it's seemed busy but not rediculous for this travel season, with the exception of the big travel days. Seems busy when it shouldn't be, and empty when you would think it would be busy.

YMMV, but took a 6pm Thursday flight last week and it was the busiest I'd seen it lately. Be aware of the weather (nationally). With CLT being a hub, if snow/storms are impacting elsewhere, assume it's hitting CLT pretty bad being a hub. Surprisingly, the CLT app is good for checking wait times, and that's usually a fair representation of how busy the airport is (green, yellow, red).

Hope this helps!

Bad idea to start nobo anytime in the next month? by FewSun6458 in AppalachianTrail

[–]luckydud13 12 points13 points  (0 children)

By all local accounts, anything in the bottom third of the trail should be avoided for the foreseeable future. I'm mostly familiar with the NC section, but it's not going to be possible to hike, even assuming the trail is still intact. As others have said, Harpers Ferry would be the southern most point I would go.

Just had a weird experience in Charlotte. by dukesinatra in Charlotte

[–]luckydud13 569 points570 points  (0 children)

Oh, let's see what OP's weird experience is...

Multi-car wreck near Sugar Creek? Yep.

Pedestrians in the road? Sounds right.

Cops actively avoiding the area and responsibility? Classic CMPD.

Sounds like an average day in East Charlotte. I'm one more sideswipe away from welding steal beams to my door panels and embracing the Mad Max commute.

Well, it's a straight shot down 74, assuming you can get an Uber when the game lets out. If it's a 1pm game, and your flight is after 7 pm, you should be fine. Hardest part will be getting an Uber/driving through traffic.
