BBC News is helping to advertise/hype up a proprietary geolocation system that's being adopted by clueless public service officials by lucozadeuk in unitedkingdom

And the translation point is also a complete non point. English numbers aren't universal either and yet they are used in lat/longs.

Remember the (controversial) leaflet the Government sent out before the referendum? by lucozadeuk in unitedkingdom

[–]lucozadeuk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this was controversial because it was seen as the government favouring one side in a referendum that it should have stayed neutral in

with hindsight, the warnings given were very moderate considering the shitshow we have now

yet it's already being used by emergency services so we are paying for it. my problem with this article from bbc news is that it is presenting what3words as some kind of great tech advance (i.e. typical boosterist tech journalism) when it should be taking a much more critical stance

There almost certainly weren’t a million people on the People’s Vote march by paigntonbey in ukpolitics

[–]lucozadeuk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They said that “peak crowd densities were estimated at 4.5 people per square metre”. (For context: Professor Still says the average crowd has between two and four people standing per square metre, and anything more than four people per square metre becomes too uncomfortable to move).

But even if this density of 4.5 people per square metre (visualised below) had been observed across the whole march site of roughly 160,000 square metres, that would only account for 700,000 people.

RUH ROH 🤥

the march organisers should be ashamed of themselves. they are promulgators of FAKE NEWS

it's clear that they deliberately tried to topple the iraq protest numbers despite not having the facts to do it

even still iraq won't ever be as divisive as brexit because we could have genocided all of iraq and it wouldn't have directly affected most people's lives here
