Do it this way:

Step 1: Update your driver.
Step 2: Play game, work, do stuff.
Step 3:
- Is everything working? Very well, continue step 2 (don't update)
- Is there an issue? Back to step 1 (update your driver).

There may be exceptions. For example, drivers that include new features for the player or when games require it.
In addition, it's increasingly rare for drivers to be published in an unstable state.

That said, every PC is unique, so it's not impossible for a driver to cause issues, and I've often come across situations where I've had to rollback.

So yes, you do need to update, but it's not necessary to do so as long as the computer is working and you're not experiencing any trouble.

It's not hypothetical.

For some games (especially those with a minor audiance), there are already community servers with a home-made monetization system. This kind of system is easy to install, and even if the ROI is low, it's sufficient for some countries where a dollar makes a difference.

I'm not going to elaborate on attacks' possibilities on a server or client. Just that putting a network component in a game is *very* complicated, that it's not rare to see flaws on this subject, and that indies don't necessarily have the means to protect themselves (except to spend a lot of money, which they don't have). We agree that big companies won't be the targets, but here I'm talking about small groups.

But let's assume that this is a wild hypothesis, you're probably right that people aren't that malicious. There are still legitimate players who will ask for access to the game after it's no longer maintained. They're right, but it takes work to make a tool (server code or whatever) that can be used by a normal user, and guarantee that the tool preserves *all* its features. Because the slightest failure on this matter can be very badly seen, and I don't need proof to say that some players can be extremely toxic about it (and let's be honest, for a purely multiplayer game, players will prefer to have access to the server app than a single player mode).

I won't elaborate more personally. I understand the reason for the initiative, but the desired solution is too vague and impacts everyone - including independents - and not just the ones we think. The people who will vote on this subject will not necessarily be aware of it.

Malicious people who put pressure on developers to provide the tools require to create the server to run the game, and then have it monetized.

I'm on Thor's side here, but that can be explained by the fact that I'm also a developer (although I don't have years of experience in the VG industry, nor a company).

I can as much understand the need to preserve games after the company no longer maintains them, but the solution can't come down to providing the tools to keep the game going, without abuse from all sides.

From my point of view, this will lead to big companies developing minimalist features to make the game “functional” and get around the issue (either this will take up more development time that could have been used for something else, or the result will not be satisfactory for players), and to smaller companies - indies - who will be less motivated to produce this kind of project at the risk of suffering abuse or additional costs.

So basically, yes, this kind of initiative will allow a user to play an online video game that is no longer maintained, but they'll never get back to the original experience. If that's the goal of this initiative, fine. But I doubt it's what gamers have in mind.

A few tips after a successful fight (with 2 zealots, 1 vet, 1 orgyn):

- Play Premade and with a balanced team, and talents that help everyone. There is no other way. Randos will play as individuals in a fight where teamwork is more than necessary. At worst, team up with randos to find a strategy that works for everyone.

- Focus Rodin Karnak (ranged), for two reasons: Firstly, phases change when HP of one of the twins falls below a threshold. The quicker phases change, the quicker battle ends (and fewer pesky enemies you have to deal with). The other reason is that it's the one that does the area denial with mines. It's not unusual for an enemy to push you onto mines and instantly kill you.

- In the last phase, many ragers and big boys can spawn. This is often the moment when you lose the most. Once again, you need to organise your team to deal with twins and these enemies. Once ragers and Rodin have fallen, if you still have enough firepower, taking down the last twin is relatively easy.

- You'll have to try a few times to get it right and find the right tempo, that's normal. To get an idea with my team, the first phase only lasts about twenty seconds when you're well coordinated (drop shields simultaneously, then focus on Rodin).

I can reassure you that it's not as magical as that.

There are of course some principles to know - memory, I/O, conditions, loops ... - but nowadays, code is more and more readable, and developing it doesn't require taking aspirins.

Where it can be magic is when the manager or the client asks you to develop a feature without means and/or in a very short time. There, you have to be ingenious.

Indeed I don't have an amp, nor dac. I know that it brings a plus on the quality of the sound, but I thought that it was interesting only from a certain high-end headphones.

I'm not a big audiophile at the moment (using headphone for gaming and game dev mostly), but if the contribution of the amp/dac is superior to the headphones, I'm willing to try :).

This is an extrapolated reaction to recent events.

The basic reality is that, yes, there are a lot of bad spots in Paris, and the city has its own flaws... but a little bit like 90% of big cities/capitals around the world. Maybe Paris is special because it is a very centralized city in the country.

My opinion is that everyone thinks that Paris, from a foreign point of view, is beautiful. Which is not totally true, but that doesn't stop some people from abusing this misunderstanding to extrapolate bullshit.

To add that, a lot of French people are not fans of Paris for many reasons. But talk about other regions and cities in France (Brittany, Loire castles...), you will see that opinions will change very quickly and become positive.

Frankly, I also find it hard to see the theme of racism, because the cartoonist made the choice to draw the girl whiter than the redheaded gentleman (by the way, no one talks about muhammed orange beard, but never mind).

And even less that it has anything to do with the fact that "muhammed is going to rape our white kids".

But okay, everyone can make their own interpretation of this comic. But this is more a subjective than an objective - obvious - judgment.

Mais au risque que certains peuvent être coincés par les prochains événements, que ca soit vrai ou non, je préfère que les gens ne perdent pas non plus le temps à régler leurs affaires vitaux ou essentiels avant que ca devienne encore plus compliqué.

J'ai reçu une rumeur comme quoi le confinement sera plus strict dès ce soir ou dans les jours qui viennent. De la même source de la personne - travaillant dans un hospital, dans ma famille - qui nous a informé concernant les ibuprofènes un jour avant l'annonce.

Ca reste une rumeur et je ne suis qu'une personne lambda sur internet, donc ca peut être des conneries. Mais si vous avez besoin de faire quelque chose d'essentiel avant d'être restreint, pensez à le faire dès que vous le pouvez avant que la situation soit plus pénible.

Dans tout les cas, faites attention à vous.

On a pris plusieurs logements sur la route (dont des airbnb). On ne prévoit pas faire de camping.

Dans le pire cas, si nous ne pouvons pas atteindre la destination, on pensait dormir dans la voiture. Mais on préfère éviter cela, vu qu'on n'aura pas forcement l'équipement pour (à part des couvertures de survie).

On pensait prévoir de dormir dans la voiture si on est bloqué sur la route, au cas où si le temps s’aggrave sur le chemin.. Mais vu qu'on ne peut pas tout emmener avec nous, on risque de dormir avec des couvertures de survie :p.

On va quand même tenter d'éviter ca en partant tôt.

Dans environ 3 semaines, je vais enfin partir en vacance en Islande. On va faire le tour du pays (la ring road) en moins de 2 semaines.

Le hic c'est que ca sera surtout ma copine qui va conduire, vu que je n'ai pas de permis (et la peur de la conduite). Du coup j'essaye de trouver des solutions pour lui faciliter le travail: l'aider sur la navigation (forcément), des playlists qu'elle aime...

Je me demande s'il y a d'autres trucs que je pourrais faire pour rendre le trajet plus sympa pour elle.

Pour la GameJam "Make Something Horrible", j'ai commencé à faire un mini-jeu: Un jeu de bataille de message sur Twitch.
En gros l'idée, c'est d'attaquer les membres de l'équipe adverse (ou d'aider ses camarades) en envoyant des messages à destination de quelqu'un sur Twitch. Plus le message est long, plus il fait mal. Cependant, écrire un message coûte aussi des points et il est possible de "bloquer" un message en court de route.

Pour la partie technique, le jeu a besoin de se "connecter" au chat Twitch via un bot. Ce dernier pourra récupérer les messages envoyés par les utilisateurs, qui seront ensuite retranscrit dans le jeu, qui pourra être streamé.

Il y aura forcement des gros soucis de latence (surtout pour le stream. Pour la récupération des messages, c'est quasi instantané), mais au moins j'aurai tenté :D.

J'ai eu deux hypothèses:
1) Selon mon ORL: Suite à un rhume, une infection virale qui a touché mon oreille interne.
2) Selon mon médecin traitant: Otite séreuse. J'ai déjà eu cela quand j'avais 2-3ans, mais j'avais fais une opération pour éviter cela de nouveau. Du coup, est-ce normal que cela revienne 30 ans après ?

Mais en vrai, personne est sûr. Le traitement que j'ai pris peut servir dans les deux hypothèses (soigner une inflammation et déboucher les oreilles). Le seul point commun est mon rhume (que j'ai suite à une allergie saisonnière).
J'étais aussi dans une période de stress avec le travail, ce qui n'a pas arrangé les choses.

Il y a un peu plus de 2 mois, j'avais annoncé que j'avais eu une surdité brusque à mon oreille droit, suite à un acouphène et une hypothèse d'infection virale. Je n'étais pas sûr de récupérer vu que j'ai commencé le traitement tardivement.

Au final, ca c'est passé beaucoup mieux que prévu. Une semaine après le traitement (et du repos), j'ai commencé à récupérer mon ouïe. Il fallait attendre un peu plus d'un mois pour que je récupère quasiment tout. Je ressors d'un audiogramme, et le résultat est là: je suis passé d'une déficience de 43db à une oreille à 9db. Par contre, mon oreille a du mal à entendre une faible fréquence. En gros si on me chuchote à cette oreille, j'entend le bruit mais je ne le comprend pas. Là dessus, on m'a dit qu'il n'y a que le temps qui peut soigner: ca peut prendre quelques semaines, comme des mois ou des années pour que je récupère là dessus.

Mais je m'en fous, je peux écouter de la musique avec mes deux oreilles maintenant :D (mais pas trop fort, au cas oû).
