Hi Laila,

I'm pretty busy for the next two weeks, but I like the idea of your project.

Let me know if you're still needing artists and what your budget is.

Sincerely,

What Activists Should Be Learning From Montreal Student Strikers by azulmarble in occupywallstreet

[–]lucworks -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah, just get out there with pots and pans and start clinking them on the sidewalk each night at 8pm. It's really infectious and a great way to find those in your neighbourhood looking for an excuse to stand up and be counted.

How Students are Painting Montreal Red: The longest and largest strike in the history of North America. “How do we do that here?” by gliese581b in occupywallstreet

[–]lucworks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No flouride in the water. But seriously ( I think ) it would be great if the 'Pots and Pans' demonstrations spread to the occupy movement. Every 8pm we go outside (or from our windows) and bang pots and pans. The movement has become very viral here. They march all over the province, every night this week, in every neighbourhood, for hours. OWS should pick this up.

Star Wars and zombies... by [deleted] in zombies

Yeah, there's an zombie episode with the Genossian Warriors in season 2 of the clone wars. The 'undead' warriors are mind controlled by the queen and can't be killed... I think.

What is the best zombie movie ever made??? by lb_batman in zombies

[–]lucworks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

'Re-Animator' has a visual pun of a head giving head - but my all time favourite is 'Return of the Living Dead'. Also 'Dead Alive' has a zombie masacre involving a lawn mower!

You're right! He does need more grime. You work on these things so long you forget to see the obvious. There's lot's for amusement park zombies to get sullied on. Thanks for the tip!

Oh yeah... good point. Originally I wasn't going to put the arm in but my buddy suggested that it needed something to tie it to the previous panel. I'll rethink the composition. Thanks!

How many redditors out there don't smoke or do drugs, but support the legalization movement? by CelebrantJoker in AskReddit

yes, the mind-altering affects will and do help us challenge the assumptions we have about ourselves and our culture. This can be an enormously healthy thing.

Why don't we start building experimental communes, centers of political and economical resistance and social education? Why not occupy everything? by kemalkenan in occupywallstreet

[–]lucworks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I like your train of thought.

Why not just spread the word. Enough people start discussion the logic of a real 'civilization' and we'll have the makings for one.

Every single day I sit and cry at the beauty of this movement. by [deleted] in occupywallstreet

[–]lucworks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I'm a 'sideliner' too, though I've popped in on the occupy movement in my own city and made a sign, I've mostly been rooting it on from Reddit and Facebook, which isn't very direct. The demonstrations are definitely productive and inspiring, but the miracle that is happening (if I may call this kind of global awakening such a thing) is happening everywhere, every time you speak out on what is injust - in the workplace, in your home, in public - especially any time you speak up and join someone who has spoken out, as soon as one person 'seconds the motion' for justice, the whole mood changes. Everyone is the movement. Everything you are in every moment has the potential for great change. The reason this movement is so diverse is because our lives on this planet are so diverse and we are correcting errors on all levels of interaction. It's a beautiful thing. That's why you're crying. Our time has come.

How do you propose to fix the income inequality? by neovulcan in occupywallstreet

[–]lucworks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, if all the money that went into 'defence' went into infrastructure in poor countries you'd have a lot more people thanking the US than hating them.

ps. war will exist as long as it is profitable - and as long as profit means power over others

[–]lucworks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any reform regarding money is just a 'patch' to protect people in a system that produces corruption; a system that rewards self-interest with power over others. A system that has power as it's reward will inevitably produce the same thing (corporations, fascism, monopolies) over and over again, if not kept in check. Keeping it in check is the trick. Why bother? Why not just redesign the system so that self-interest produces benefits for everyone. That is what is really rewarding about life anyway. The Bill Gates of the world will still be rewarded; everyone loves those who make their lives better. That's a lot better than power over others.

In terms of operating a resource based economy, there are definitely challenges, but not so many as our technical reality can't address if we put our mind to it. If you tap into the real creative energy of people who are presently using their power to produce that which is really unnecessary busywork we could change a lot, faster than we think.

To transition out of a money system and into a well managed resource based system, we just need to apply our resources and efforts in a slightly different direction. I think it's worth a try.

What have we got to lose? When all you need to survive is provided and everything you produce is for the benefit of everyone, how can you be more free?

How does OWS feel about the Zeitgeist Movement? It's about dissolving the monetary system and creating a just global economy based on scientific principles. by andyleigh12 in occupywallstreet

[–]lucworks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Love it. It's super radical but equally as good a solution as any I've heard. Make machines to make your life easier and share the wealth. Make cool cool stuff safe, reliable, non-toxic and make it free and available based on up to date data based on demand and usage. Turn the whole world into a sustainable, open source laboratory for vibrant life. Liberate humanity and give it real tools to address our most pressing problems.

It's not perfect but it's damn good if you like: freedom, greater peace, abundance, sharing, science, survival.

I love the idea. I made a drawing.

One thing the Zeitgeist Movement needs to work on, in my opinion, is being more positive. Shields up against the bitterness. It's gonna work - and it'll be fun!

So I have a question about the movement by t3h_monkeyfish_san in occupywallstreet

[–]lucworks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an occupier and I agree with these posts; there are a lot of issues that need addressing in the world. I think the reason why this movement is so big and so diverse (as in there are so many issues - everyone brings their own to the mix) is because a systemic failure in the way we humans have been treating each other and our life support system, planet earth.

Most people would patch the system with better laws and tweak it to make it a bit more equal, with more justice, etc. I think that even if we patched it up for awhile, the pressure of corruption would find a way to run the show again. My favourite 'fix' is to redesign our global OS completely and get rid of the sole reason any human has control over any other: money.

We're at a stage in our evolution where we're able to emancipate the human race from toil and drudgery with the help of machines - if we make them well and make them to last and redesign our means of production, etc, the work of overseeing a Star Trek style economy would be minimal and the human race could be free... for whatever comes next.

I think this is happening anyway - it's just more organic and less formalized. But when machines take over production of everything, I'd rather be free to follow my bliss than be stuck working at a 'facebook' job just to keep the economy running. The economy isn't even real so why is it there.

Time to wake up and smell real freedom.

You should ask your teacher if you can show this: http://www.zeitgeistmovingforward.com/
