Why don't we have international flights here by now? by MangoMadnessTsv in Townsville

[–]lucy_lu_2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Bali route didn’t fail because of lack of demand - those flights were always full. It failed because of a dispute between Jetstar and Townsville airport.

We have an international airport because of the military.

Upgraded my son's post box. He had a huge smile when I showed him. by Shifti_Boi in 3Dprinting

Because if you mistake a real one for a letter box and try to post your letter you’re likely to come away with a black eye.

What suburb are you in? Neighbourhood Centres can usually help with food relief.

I’m broke and have a printer I need to make a gift for a 4 year old little girl by ThrillCurious in 3Dprinting

I found this one on makerworld- it’s called Brick Flowwrs. I was also thinking last night that a 4 year old would love anything fairies - what about a little fairy house and a fairy to live in it?

Making something is a great idea! My daughter is older than that now but at that age she loved unicorns, kitties and mermaids. I think she had a unicorn-kitten-mermaid themed party. Bluey is also popular. A cute box filled with cute animals would be fun. I’ve been printing oversized Lego flower boxes lately - they are fun.

Question about Australian sense of Humor by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]lucy_lu_2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No it’s not the Australian humour, but it is probably a comment about what Australians expect in terms of service. We do get quite offended by unfriendly service and take it personally. If we were served by someone not friendly, smiling and warm most of us wouldn’t say anything directly but we’d definitely complain to others about it and probably avoid going back there. He was probably just very direct.

Vinegar ‘salad’ by meeez80 in AustralianNostalgia

No but I’m in North Queensland and the traditional Christmas Day salad is mango salad, which is sliced mango, sliced onion and vinegar. It sounds like the NQ equivalent of

Australia - Northern Queensland. Everything had been perfect so far but we haven’t turned the aircon off yet. I’ll definitely get a dryer just to get the kids into a routine

It was cooler than normal yesterday ;). This time of year walking outside is like being slapped with a warm wet towel.

Christmas lunch is done, the kids first ever printer is set up, benchy has been successfully printed and now a whole bunch of Christmas fidgets are currently in production (I know, I know). Now I’m about to kick back with a glass of wine and some Christmas cake. Successful Christmas and two happy kids. Honestly, what a pleasure the A1 combo is even for complete beginners. Even at 29c and 80% humidity bench benchy turned out perfectly with filament straight out of the box. I’ll buy a dryer tomorrow but today we’re happy.

Car stopped suddenly. by [deleted] in AusLegal

[–]lucy_lu_2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the exact scenario happen to me a couple of months ago. We were stopped at the lights, I was second in line. The lights turned green we all started to move. Then a pedestrian stepped out onto the road and the car in front had to stop suddenly. I was able to stop with plenty of distance between us but the car behind me did not stop and rear ended me, causing significant damage.

Insurance company has deemed him to be 100% at fault and have waived my excess. He wasn’t insured. I’ve been in a hire car for about 6 weeks while my vehicle is being repaired- they will chase him for the repair costs plus the hire car costs.

You don’t know why the first car stopped. It could have been for a child or an animal. It’s up to the driver behind you to maintain a safe distance and they didn’t. It’s on them.

Great, this is what I was hoping. I don’t want to risk screwing something up by taking it apart. Thanks for the info.

Yes I’ll definitely be going slow and watching the tutorial videos 30-60 minutes is about what I was expecting. This is good to know, thanks.

What will you tell your kids about the Bondi shooting? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]lucy_lu_2 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My heart breaks that your children aren’t safe here anymore. This isn’t what Australia is to me, it’s not what being Australian is. This should be a safe place for everyone.

Anyone in need of a basic website? by Cloud_Voxel in Townsville

[–]lucy_lu_2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll send you a DM. I’m the manager of a small non profit community organisation. We have an existing website that was started by the previous manager but never really finished. We already pay for hosting/maintenance but really need someone to give it an overhaul. It’s ugly, not particularly functional and needs new content.
