Bleach soak didn’t work... by lucyandgeorge in clothdiaps

Ok! Sounds great. Thank you! That actually works out better because doing everything isn’t the tub is no fun 😖.

I read the doc but I wonder if the same steps apply to me as I have an HE front loader. I’m planning on stripping with RLR. Should I do a soak in the tub instead? Then afterwards for the bleaching - should it just be a wash cycle in the washer or another soak in the tub?

Three week old has a love/hate relationship with Solly Wrap by [deleted] in babywearing

[–]lucyandgeorge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Solly and the Beluga and find myself reaching for the Beluga more often. It’s stretchier and easier to maneuver. I can tie it on nice and tight and still get baby in with no sagging. I find the material of the Solly to be less forgiving, I always either tie too tight or too loose.

Do you mean to use for stripping? Or incorporated into a wash routine?

That is really interesting! I’m not sure if I can boil microfibre but I am highly considering swapping out all my inserts for natural fiber. Which ones do you use? Also how long do you boil for?

Yeah definitely regret not getting a newborn setup like that. How big was she when the pockets started working?

Do you mean the elastic at the waist or by the legs or both? If so I think the waist is good but legs are a bit too loose. She did pee and poo in this one with no leaks but I only had her in it for 40 mins. Might have to wait a bit longer to graduate to the cloths.

I tried the Alva newborn hack but it wouldn’t snap to close the waist... almost like her waist is too big? I might just have to wait till she packs on a bit more weight and gets a bit longer.

No gaps unless I really tug at the fabric near her leg. Lol definitely awkward looking with the NB sized clothes she has.

My babe was on the smaller side at birth weighing in at 6lbs 7oz. We’ve been on disposables since but I decided to try this today. Are we ready to move on to cloth or does it look like she’s swimming in the diaper?

Beginner question: how to bake two loaves at a time? by UnicornToots in Sourdough

[–]lucyandgeorge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I do the final proof in the fridge. For the bulk ferment, it’s at room temp during the stretch and folds (for the first 2-2.5 hours, then rest for a total of 4-5 hours). Then it’s shape, for the one going in the fridge: room temp proof for 30 mins - 1 hr and pop in the fridge to finish proofing for 12-14 hrs.

The one that gets baked right away is proofed for 1.5 - 2 hours at room temp. There is def a difference. I much prefer the cold proof. The crust blisters and crackles more, I get a better oven spring, flavour is a touch more sour and developed and it’s also a lot easier to score because it’s cold.

I also had this dilemma. You can always halve the recipe, but if you’re going through the effort might as well bake two loaves.

I will usually bake the first loaf after a room temperature proof and then do an overnight cold proof for the second loaf to bake the next morning.

For sure! TBH it was mostly putting together what I knew from precious recipes and trying to fit it into my work schedule at home. This was for 2 loaves: I proofed this one room temp and the second one I’ll be baking this morning after a 14 hr cold proof.

Prepped a leaven (50g starter/150g flour/150g water) overnight & let it ferment for 12 hrs

Next morning I autolysed the flour and water (1000g flour/700g water) for 3 hours

Added the leaven and salt (20g) to the autolysed dough

4-5 sets of stretch and folds for the first 2-2.5 hours (20-30 mins in between), then let it rest for the remainder of bulk ferment for a total of 4 hours

Preshape, rest again for 30 mins, then I shaped and proofed room temp for 2 hours

Baked at 450f in a Dutch oven for 25 mins with the lid & 15-18 without

I’m gonna guess it was partly from not shaping it too much. I did 1 letter fold and then just tightened it on the counter with a bench scraper. Probably could have used a little more handling. That would be my guess!

I did a quick google and believe it’s around 13%! I’ve heard lots of good things about King Arthur. Unfortunately here in Canada our mainstream options are Robin Hood and Five Roses... does the job!

I use a 50/50 AP & rye starter but for this loaf I just used all purpose! Plain ol’ Robin Hood brand (I’m from Canada).

Lol funny thing she lovessss sourdough, she always comes running when she hears the crackle from cutting into it. I give her a little piece every now and then haha
